Is it worth to stick around on the Steem blockchain in 2020?

avatar

I am seriously asking this. I intentionally ask this in Busy, and not in dPoll.
The last few times I tried Busy, I have not even received real, human comments in multiple cases.
Let's see if this will be any different this time.

There are a few active, successful people on the Steem blockchain. They have great level of interaction under their blog posts, but most of the people's blog posts are ignored. Including my blog posts.

No matter what I do, what I try, what I post, what I write about, almost no one cares about my Steem blockchain blog posts.

If this blog post will not receive at least 3 real human comments, then I will Power down my Steem account, sell the Steem, then and I will leave the Steem blockchain permanently.

I have left the Steem blockchain a few times, but always returned to it so far.
But now I am close to done with it permanently.
I simply had enough of trying for more than 2 years (since 2017.05.17), and still being ignored.

This is not a social media.

If you have to "fight" for interaction, then it is not social. I think that I will keep using only the Facebook, but not the Steem blockchain dApps. Facebook is better in this aspect.

At least I do not have to "fight" for real human interaction on Facebook. People are care about my posts there. People are reading my posts there. People are writing comments there. People are expressing their opinions. People are communicating with me. And these are which really matters.

I think it is worth it. I would start by adding some photos. Take some shots of your town, your pet. Every Monday, I run a monochromeMonday challenge. Take a black and white photo and you can drop your link in my comment section. I will vote it. Also take a pic for TreeTuesday, drop the link in a comment on my post. Just an idea...

I did it. But not nowadays. I uploaded photos. I have also participated in contests/challenges. Rarely made any difference. But maybe I will try to do these again in the future.

My number 1 rule is do it coz u enjoy it. If you expect a large reward that covers your time spent, we are not in that position here on Steemit. For example, I started making songs. I upload them and no one cares...but I do it coz I enjoy it. I do it for me. So post what you like and when you like, the rest is bonus.

If I post anything, and no one cares about it, then I cannot enjoy that. Sorry.
I do not expect a large reward. There is a very huge gap between "no one cares" and "huge reward". I believe that if you put work and effort into something, then you deserve some compensation for it. Even if it just a few cents or a few dollars.
By the way, Steemit has a bad marketing. It is marketed with the money earning opportunity, so no one should blame others for expecting rewards.

I’ve left Steem a couple of times. But tend to come back.

Do you comment on other people’s posts much? That tends to help gain engagement with your own content.

Adding photos to your posts also really helps them stand out, it’s very easy to overlook posts without images.

I don’t really like dpoll. The interaction on those posts doesn’t really seem genuine.

Maybe just try a few different things on here to see what happens.

I have tried everything.
Nowadays I tend to be less active on the Steem blockchain due to the disappointment in the platform. Or more like in the "community" of the platform.
I have tried uploading photos my own photos about various things. For a long time. Did not made any difference. I upvote and comment other people's posts. But no matter what I do, almost no one cares about my photos. I am tired of trying.
You wrote "much". Maybe that is the problem. This is what I mean by "fighting" for interaction. I do not comment much. And I will not. I will not force myself to interact with others. That would not do much good, I think.
I am genuinely using the platform. Just like Facebook. The main difference between the two platforms is the level of interaction. While the community is engaging on Facebook, people just do not care on the Steem blockchain. Huge difference.

Hmm not wanting to interact with people on the platform is the problem here. But that’s ok.

If you don’t want to get to know people here and build friendships with them then you can’t expect interaction on your posts.

It sounds like you want interaction on your posts without getting to know people on the platform.

The problem is that the people who do the best here are the ones who comment lots and build strong relationships on the platform.

If that’s not for you then maybe you’re better off automating your votes and simply growing your account through automated curation. Which is mostly what I do these days.

Edit: And you haven’t tried everything. Want to know how I made most of my Steem? Video content. Not on the Tub Cat account of course, but that Steem is powered up on this account now.

I do interact with others. Just not that much. The problem is the "much", not the "interact".
If I really have to comment a lot every day just to get interaction on my posts, then the Steem blockchain is not really for me. You do not have to do this on Facebook to get interaction. I am already casting automated (and manual) upvotes, but nowadays my upvote is worth less than $0.01, so the curation rewards I earn are insignificant.
I currently cannot create video content, because I currently do not have any hardware, which would be capable of proper video recording.

I used my phone and basic (free) video editing software to make my videos. The quality doesn’t have to be amazing.

Videos about training your falcon would do well I imagine. Hell, even a written post about that topic should do well.

Human comment number 3.

A quick scan through your posts and my opinion is that not much of your content is community orientated. Eg, and as old guy suggests, you seem not to be taking the chance to be a part of the daily/weekly initiatives that are run. Engaging here and on the posts of others will likely improve your visitor counts.

It would be a shame to leave just before the party starts :)

Yes, nowadays I rarely post anything. Due to the disappointment in the platform.
I am not a new user.
I am on the Steem blockchain since 2017.05.17, so more than 2 years.
I have tried uploading photos, participating in contests/challenges/giveaways. These rarely were successful. My posts mostly got ignored, no matter what I wrote about, what I have done, what I have tried.

Interaction begats interaction. It is hard to ignore comments on a post that interacts with people. Use pictures. People love pictures and make posts that make you happy, but, will have general appeal to all.

I can say that there was a time when I got no comments, so, I didn't post as much but went out and commented instead. (I did both, but, the focus was on comments)

Also, I genuinely have fun here.

Go to discord. Find a group. Join. Give it time. The party is just starting!!

Good luck. Drop by my post. I comment. :)

I understand you and your viewpoint, and I appreciate the tip. Thank you for the tip!
I am happy that you are having fun on the Steem blockchain, but it is hard to have fun, when you are basically ignored in general. I still try not to give up on the Steem blockchain. Well, I am not going to force myself to comment under people's posts, because that is not fun, but I am still commenting under people's posts. Genuinely.
So, I am writing a healthy amount of comments.
If that will not be enough, then I am afraid that I will have to leave the Steem blockchain. But time will tell.

I don't know if it's worth or not, but I hope it is.

I actually don't mind that no one cares to comment on my posts. Steemit serves as an anonymous digital diary to me. Happy weekend! :-)
