how do you buy something that's supposed to be 'decentralized' ???

Buying the majority of stake in it?

In this case possibly a bunch of Steem and becoming the head of Steem Inc.??

I'm not sure what asset's are up for purchase but Steemit is just a dapp that gives us access to the blockchain. No different than some of the Tribe sites (which have owners/founders with large stake).

yes as @rentmoney said... the people with the control stake selling to new people with a control stake would constitute an "acquisition"

Steem is a decentralized blockchain, Steemit is just a (centralized) app built on steem

They aren't buying the STEEM blockchain. They're only buying the app that runs on the blockchain. Steemit is just the social networking app. It would be the same thing if someone were to buy DrugWars, NextColony, or Splinterlands. Make sense?

Interesting @davemccoy,

Today is the first I have heard of it.

Even if Tron doesn't buy in it wouldn't surprise me if at some point someone big does.

I heard it was done last week and they were buying out all the large stakeholders that were milking steem too... evidently it has been happening for a month or so. Obviously any change of management is a good thing imo (couldn't do much worse when it comes to knowing what your customers want) :)

Seems like a tall task to do. Since the cat is out of the bag so to speak, I suspect we find out soon enough if the rumors are true or not.

Something needs to be done to shake this place up, that's for sure.

Just glad I am almost done with my power down. I felt it was necessary months ago.....

I don't have much to power down so I'll just keep it there regardless of what happens.

I'm fine with whatever too, I just see better stuff to put my Steem into than SP, just to get downvoted among other things.

WOW

This is the first I’m hearing of this. I guess time will tell but I hope SteemIt continues to have a bright future.

Steem the blockchain has lots of potential. The USD value of STEEM on the other hand ..... needs some work.

Is it the site and steemit inc. thats getting purchased or a lot of STEEM which gives them some control of STEEM?

To the best of my knowledge the rumor is that Steemit is being purchased and I assume that means lots of Steem to go along with it.

I think that is great news if Tron keeps the Steem Blockchain Developers from Steemit to improve further the Steem Blockchain Protocol.
The good thing is that TRON has deeper Pockets to continue the Development of Steem Blockchain and could they could also bring in more partnerships and better marketing funds than Steemit Team.
Finally, the constant selling of Steem thru Steemit.com could become to an end as well so overall I think there are many positive changes coming from this Take over but only time will tell.

It will certainly shake things up and as you said the massive sale from Stinc would likely end.

Wow this is really exciting. I wonder what effect will this have on the Steem price ?

Currently we're still at 13* cents so the rumor hasn't kicked up the price much.

If its actually true or not I'm not certain. At the very least I suspect some Tron whales to become Steem Whales so that could cause a small bump in price.

I don't want to believe it but it may be true. If so they will influence steem blockchain too much.

I think a merger of the sort could be a positive.

Currently we been in the red for a long time.

Remember that apart from some Steem stake that they've been selling, steemit controls the github keys to #steem.

Interesting, I never dug too deep into who owns what on the chain. I'm here more for the social aspect than the investment (I only own about 2500 S/SP total).

If the "sale" is true it will be interesting to read the details. Being sold/partnering or selling shares are all a possibility but all carry different weight and significant's to the platform.

Interesting if true. Hopefully it will lead to more users and positive developments
