Spiritual Progress is Unavailable in Heaven

(Edited)

It is a curious polarity between matter and spirit.

Consider the current scientific paradigm of materialism, embodied by western medicine, that claims empirically that only what it can measure is true. It gets fuzzy in the regions of conscious thought, but suffice it to say we are meat machines who produce thoughts much the same way a cow produces farts.

Contrast this view with its polar opposite: religionism. All class of ritualistic behavior that has in its tendency to raise to highest importance that which happens after this life, after death. "In heaven we will meet God and get our questions answered," they might be overheard saying.

Ironically, both of these ideas are fallacious in much the same way, which is why, today as I type this, something of a religious scientism can be said to be sweeping over the world.

On a tangential note, this is why I love taking the screen shots of google Image searches. Not only are the websites listed for each image, which protects all involved, but one can immediately see a cross spectrum of symbols and expressions on one topic. A well curated google image search screen shot can express more than a word cloud, in my humble opinion.

Take a look at this unironic badge of Scientific 'Belief', the atomic 'I believe in Science' lapel pin:

While on the other side of the very same screen we have a book jacket style Satire of the very same notion:

Back to the topic at hand. Spiritual Progress cannot be made in Heaven. For, to be in the presence of the One, to enter into the One and be a part of the Eternal and Unchanging One does not allow for anything like progress or evolution. So if we can even get there in the present state of our souls, once there, Heaven will amount to not much more than glorious waiting for another round of bread-breaking.

"If you know what Life is worth,

You will look for yours on Earth."

-'Get Up, Stand Up' Lyrics, Bob Marley

So 'get up, stand up', is the conclusion brought to us by Bob Marley and the Wailers, who in the same song leave us with the very wise verse:

We're sick and tired of the 'ISM-schism' game,
Dying to go to heaven in Jesus' name, Lord
We know when we understand,
ALMIGHTY GOD is a living man

At the end of the day, a poor interpretation will always be wrong, and the rhetorical arts as practiced by politicians can take either side of any argument and turn it into a mess. And in this way the mental laziness spreads, a self-fulfilling lethargy in thought that leads many to spiritual stagnation.

Either, 'wait eagerly for death' or 'everything is accidental/all that matters is feelz'. These are just bad choices, but luckily through suffering we can redeem ourselves, evolve ourselves, grow ourselves. Even Frederich Nietzsche, not known to be fond of religion, recognized the importance of suffering for finding purpose.

'Life is nasty, brutish, and short', according to Thomas Hobbes, and this is not by accident but the result of what happens when matter and spirit combine. 'To wrestle with God', as we each must, is an exercise of an upper, spiritual principle coming to exert itself over a lower, material principle.

To paraphrase Phil Colins, Human kind, real men in time we'll be. In time, through what scientists classify as the fourth dimension, we meet our heroic journeys each of us. We must cross thresholds, seek mentors, face obstacles and in the end overcome the realization that the enemy is one of our two fathers. But we can rise above.

"By Learning you Will Teach,

by Teaching you will Learn"

- 'Son of Man' Lyrics, Phil Colins

Spiritual Progress will not be available in heaven, for it is only available in Hell, that is here on Earth. Our lives here in this underworld, under the heavenly stars of all the cosmos, have meaning and deep purpose. We are here to educate and domesticate ourselves through trial and tribulation, creation and conciliation.

With the correct interpretation, ancient books reveal their wisdom even after many years. This is the conclusion of The Lost Light: An Interpretation of Ancient Scriptures by Alvin Boyd Kuhn. This book is available for purchase from the big guys or available for free on Archive.Org.

" With the correct interpretation ancien books reveal their wisdom"..

I think our advances in science had made us arrogant and full of hubris. I think that those who came before us had a greater grasp of how everything works than we do now.. We have lost our way and will not find our way until the pendulum swings the other way

Interesting read. We haven't had a beer together in a long time. I agree that we should feel essential.
