Solar update 071220

(Edited)

I track solar flares and have been doing so for over a decade now. Sometimes we get Coronal Mass Ejections that reach Earth. Last week there was an M4.4 that fortunately was not Earth directed. Today there was a C7.4solar flare.

Here is a GIF I made using still frames taken from the Solar Dynamic Observatory via the iSWA dashboard.

Here is the Temporary Event page from SolarSoft. This information disappears so I am posting about it here on Hive where I know it will be archived for future reference.

Event# EName Start Stop Peak GOES Class Derived Position
20 gev_20201207_1546 2020/12/07 15:46:00 17:15:00 16:32:00 C7.4 S25W08 ( 2790 )

Next you can see

Another view from STEREO ahead that shows the CME explode into space.

Again I created this GIF using individual frames via the iSWA dashboard.

(3-day Geomagnetic Forecast ) It does seem that we may get a small geomagnetic storm around December 10th here on Earth.

"The latest CME tracking model has been updated to include the CME observed on Monday. An impact is indeed expected sometime on Wednesday (Dec 9) and into Thursday. A minor (G1) geomagnetic storm watch is in effect. Depending on solar wind conditions, moderate (G2) storming may also be possible. Aurora sky watchers should be alert during the next 48-72 hours. Where are STEREO A & B located?

Positions of STEREO A and B for 8-Dec-2020 00:00 UT

This image is found on https://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/where.shtml

Stay alert! Stay safe.

Maybe include the Enlil spiral, would be easier to see whether the CME is Earth directed or not.

Eyes open, no fear.

Really nice to see this info onchain. Looks like we’re going to get hit head on with this CME.

I imagine you’re aware of these guys, but just in case:

Very cool! In a universe of infinite energy, brings conscious only of their brief existence fight for the very thing they're made of and part of. Thanks for this beautiful reminder that we're briefly realizing an infinite existence in a great journey that is unfathomable by constructs of language and time.
