Solos Solar Array production stats – May 2025

avatar

During the last month on the farm we produced 1.34 megawatt hours of solar power. It would seem the sun is coming back and soon to be in full force over the summer. We are producing some good numbers right now. I recently got a steady load put on Array B, so I hope to start consuming more of the power and not just storing it for night time.

We cut back the weeds by the solar panels last week as well, seems the lime only works as a barrier when you pack it at least 8 inches thick. So we are back to cutting the grass in some spots where we did not have enough lime to completely cover them.

Array A production stats:

Load: 1677.5 kWh
PV: 338.1 kWh
Grid Import: 1454.3 kWh
Battery Charge: 116.5 kWh
Battery Discharge: 94.9 kWh

*combined stats are different from screenshot from single inverter.

Array A build:

System Size = 5.5 kWp DC
Panels = Sungoldpower Monocryalline 60 cell (12 Panels, 450 Watts each)
Mounting System = Brightmount EG4 screwed into 6x6 timbers
Wiring: 1x 8 AWG 19 strand PV direct bury wire pair
Inverters = 2x Sol-Ark 15k all-in-ones (240V)

Battery Backup = 48 3.2v EVE LF280 LiFePO4 280AH batteries
Battery Management system = Daly Smart BMS 16S 48V 500A
Battery Capacity = 45.696 kWh (840AH)

Propane Generator = Briggs and Stratton Power Protect 26kw

Array B production stats:

Load: 1553.1 kWh
PV: 1006.3 kWh
Grid Import: 686.1 kWh
Battery Charge: 478.6 kWh
Battery Discharge: 411.7 kWh

Array B build:

System Size = 9 kWp DC
Panels = Sungoldpower Monocryalline 60 cell (20 Panels, 450 Watts each)
Mounting System = Brightmount EG4 screwed into 6x6 timbers
Wiring: 2x 8 AWG 19 strand PV direct bury wire pair
Inverters = Sol-Ark 15k all-in-one (240V)

Battery Backup = 48 3.2v LiFePO4 290AH batteries (unknown brand)
Battery Management system = Daly Smart BMS 16S 48V 250A
Battery Capacity = 47.328 kWh (870AH)

Propane Generator = Briggs and Stratton Power Protect 22kw

Totals combined for all arrays:

1344.4 kWh (1.34 MWh) produced for the month of May

That's really awesome. I often get energy reports from my power company and according to them we use quite a bit less power than the average home of our size, so I wonder what adding a solar build could do for us. I don't think we get as much sun as you do though!

Thanks, ah yeah it is nice seeing the price drop on the bills. If your house is shaded and you can only mount to your roof it may not be worth it. But if you have lots of clear skies, maybe look into it. I do not recommend attaching to your roof, I went with ground mounts.

My only option would be on our roof. We do have a pretty clear sky as we had to cut down our big maple tree recently. I'm still not sure it would be worth it at this point. We hope to move in a few years.

Ah well I hear attaching to roofs they can leak sometimes.. And if your roof is already old they may not even install it until you get new shingles.

When you move if you can do a ground mount that is your best bet.

Thanks, I will look into that. We definitely need a new roof, so that is probably off the table for sure!

How are you, dear friend @solominer?

It's great that you're producing a good amount of solar energy and can start consuming more during the day. That's very significant and good for the environment.

Great job you're doing keeping the weeds away from the area where the panels are located.

Excellent work! I appreciate you sharing these solar energy statistics.

Have a great day.

Thanks, it is all coming along quite nicely. Its good to have a year of stats now and I am quite happy with it all. Hah those weeds, always trying to creep up on them.

Hope you have a great day too.

Sounds like federal tax credits for Solar will be ending this year, so I should get on it if I want to have a solar installation at my new home.

Oh my CPA looked into that for me and it only applies to people that export their power. I use 100% of what I produce, so I am not subject so such credits.

But if that works well in your state maybe its something to look into. Where I live I would get paid pennies on the dollar selling back to the utility company so I never went down that route.

I hope that it will produce more energy in the summer months. Compared to last month and March, energy production is less. What is the reason for this?

Me to, I think the sun should get a little stronger in the next few months.

Maybe it was more cloudy, or maybe we did not clear the weeds from the bottom row of panels quick enough and it slightly shaded them. Hard to say for sure.

How do you get these stats?

Is it in a link of your previous posts or is it a calculation of yours or just your solar companies gimmick?

I have a solar panel at home and I'm curious.

I pull these stats from the machine, it logs them for me.

It is my calculation, many of these inverters will tell you these stats.

Nice, I started off with just a couple and just kept building from there.

We have not quite reached a MWh in a month yet, but we get close. I have seen that solar in the UK has really ramped up in the last few years. It can make economic sense if you are prepared to wait a few years for payback. Your system is a bit more than most people could have though. You could run a few houses off that lot.

I keep seeing more panels on roofs all the time when I drive around. Feels good to see it keep expanding. Yeah the up front cost amount is a lot, but it pays off long term.

Yeah my setup is about enough for 1.5 houses. I plan on setting up a second array, and then the picture of the array you see in the cover image will be for one house. And a second array in the future for my other.

In summer we produce several times what we could use (no a/c), but in winter we will not get enough sun to export. Being able to charge the battery at night still saves us money.
