The devotees of science

During my life I have had an ambivalent relationship with science, on the one hand I praise the scientific method as one of the most neat ways of obtaining probable knowledge, on the other hand I criticize when it is pointed out as the only method to find the truth, although I believe that scientists are in a respectable position for their work, I object when they are considered the only or the highest authority on knowledge, and although many scientific theories seem extraordinary to me, the truth is that some others seem to me a complete nonsense.

The truth is that I have always believed that the correct understanding is found in our heads to discern the true from the false, using the rational capacities intrinsic in each one of us, although the scientific method is positioned as one of the best ways to access knowledge, it is not the only way, even in my case the use of only logic is the preferred way. That said, it is not surprising then that I fiercely criticized the opinions of those who claim to see science as the ultimate and only source of truth, dogmatically supporting the scientific method and considering it as the only means by which the truth can be found in what is known as scientism, which is the creation of a religion based on science, which aims to see as true everything that scientists say, making them the clergy of modern and materialistic society.

It seems that some have the idea that science should compete with other religions and even take their place, having a monopoly on truth and the power to think for all of us and to dictate what is true and what is false of the world we live in, in charge, like the old inquisition, of filtering the content consumed by the masses to avoid that they fall into error or blasphemy to contradict the scientific consensus. Of course, we have not reached the point yet in which some State endorses science in the same way that they did in the past with religion so that this happens, maybe in some communist nation this point will be reached sometime, although that does not change the danger that scientism represents for the free access of information and the search for truth.

Nobody, no person or group of people, has the authority to decide what knowledge is valid and true and what is not, what are the means to reach the truth, and what is, ultimately, true and false. Only you have the authority and power to decide, because you have the ability to think for yourself, question the information you receive, and ultimately determine whether something is true or false according to reason and logic. You have all the necessary tools at your disposal. We must not allow the truth to belong to a small group of people, whoever these people are, we have to decentralize the truth.

it's SCIENCE! versus science

in the first, you have cult worship, consensus, and the guardian-priests of "knowledge" that no matter how many times contradict themselves, have to be obeyed

in the second, you have scientific method, critical thinking, understanding of bias, open discourse, actual peer-review in the form of honest criticism

the people that worship SCIENCE! will never understand science...

I generally refer to the first one as The Religion of Scientist-ism

Agree!

Truth is decentralized cuz everyone can use methodic and logic - think for themselves! :)

But often I fear most people don't even want to think for themselves..

That's the problem, when people agree to put themselves in an unfavorable position.
