These are Microsoft's underwater data centers. This is the future of the green internet

Microsoft has been experimenting with underwater data centers as part of the Natick project for several years.

It turns out that the giant's idea hits the spot.

The latest tests were carried out in the waters of the North Sea off the coast of the Scottish Orkney Islands.

The world's largest underwater cloud was created there.

It resembles a submarine, its structure is 12 meters long and can contain up to 864 servers. The device is self-sufficient and can operate for 5 years.

This is one of the many farms to be built around the world in the coming years.

In this way, Microsoft wants to cool electronic devices in a very cheap and effective way.

The issue of ecology is also important here.

The company will thus reduce carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere and reduce its contribution to global warming. Engineers from the Redmond giant have therefore confirmed the hypothesis that the seabed is better for server farms than surface environments, where equipment could be damaged by corrosion from oxygen and moisture.

, constant temperature changes and physical movements during maintenance.

Placing data centers underwater can also allow them to be placed closer to customers, and of course it makes it much easier to cool the entire system. One such underwater data center can hold 27 petabytes of data and is powered by renewable energy from tidal power plants that generate energy from the movements of the sea.

The center can also be powered by wind farms, which will increasingly be built near the coast or in the wide waters of the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Servers are connected to each other and by a global network.

Although in the past, both Microsoft and other companies actively operating in the world of the Internet, created similar projects, this one is not only the largest in the world, but also in the entire history of mankind.

Microsoft boasts that it has developed a technology with which it will take its ecological activities related to the care of Mother Nature to a new, much higher level.
