There are so many benefits of oranges for our body. Orange is one of the most popular fruits in the world and easy to find. Oranges are everywhere. I am sure everybody loves having this fruit.

Oranges consist of various types such as sweet orange, lime, lemon, grapefruit and many more. All of them have amazing benefits to prevent us from diseases. Oranges have more than 170 phytochemicals and more than 60 flavonoids. The benefits of oranges have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and strong antioxidant effects. The benefits of oranges have been proven in many scientific studies.

The Oranges are very nutritious, offering a number of vitamins, minerals, and compounds that help you stay healthy. Oranges are a good source of soluble fiber, which helps reduce cholesterol and help your digestion well. Oranges are also low in calories and making it a smart choice for people who want to maintain their weight.
If you want to meet daily nutrition, orange is one of the right choices. Oranges are able to be consumed directly in juice, or you can mix them with food and drinks.

Here are some benefits of oranges that I read from various sources

Reducing the Risk of Kidney Stones

Kidney stones are painful mineral crystals. Kidney stones can be formed when urine is very concentrated or when you have a higher amount of stone-forming minerals than normal levels in the urine.
The kidney stone is caused by low levels of citrate in the urine. Many fruits and vegetables, especially oranges can increase the levels of citrate in the urine and reduce the risk of kidney stones as well.
According to data on the habit of American people over the past 40 years, kidney stones are more commonly experienced by people who consume fewer oranges.

Prevention of Cancer

Many studies link orange with a reduction in the risk of certain cancers. In a study, people who ate an orange or drank a serving of orange juice every day had a lower risk of lung cancer.
Other studies show that oranges can also protect us from cancer of the esophagus, stomach, breast, and pancreas. These oranges contain a number of natural compounds, including flavonoids, which can help protect our body from cancer.

Some of them act as antioxidants and can block the reaction of certain genes responsible for several degenerative diseases, including cancer. The oranges also help us to prevent cancer by blocking the formation of new cancers and the carcinogens are inactive.

Improve The Health of Heart

Benefits of oranges are good for the heart. In fact, a study in Japan found that people who consume more of orange have lower rates of heart disease and stroke.

Furthermore, a 2017 review showed that oranges were associated with a decrease in systolic blood pressure. Some compounds in oranges can improve heart health.

For example, soluble fiber and flavonoids present in oranges can increase cholesterol levels by increasing HDL cholesterol which is good cholesterol and decreases bad LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Several types of flavonoids in oranges, including those called naringin, are powerful antioxidants that are beneficial to the heart.

Protecting The Brain's Function

Flavonoids in oranges can help ward off neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's which result from cell damage in the nervous system.

Some of these diseases are caused by inflammation. Flavonoids found in citrus fruits have anti-inflammatory properties which are thought to help protect the condition of the nervous system.
Specific types of flavonoids, including hesperidin and apigenin, have been shown to protect brain cells and improve brain function in mice and tube studies. Some studies in older adults also show that orange juice can improve brain function.

Health of Skin

Antioxidants of Vitamin C can be found in oranges. When you consume or applied them to your skin, the benefits of oranges can help us to prevent the skin damage caused by the sun and pollution.
The benefits of oranges for the skin also including to reduce wrinkles and improve the overall texture of the skin which makes the skin appear smooth. Vitamin C plays an important role in the formation of collagen, It is a support system for human skin.

Reducing the Risk of Diabetes

Research has shown that people with the 1st-grade of diabetes who consume foods with high fiber have lower blood glucose levels. Oranges are one of the fruits with high fiber. The main fibers found in oranges are pectin, cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin.

Dietary fiber is associated with many beneficial health effects, including improved digestive health, weight loss, and cholesterol. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend us to consume oranges 21-25 Gram/day for women and 30-38 Gram/day for men.

Prevention of Anemia

Anemia is a condition characterized by low levels of red blood cells or hemoglobin, which decreases its ability to carry oxygen. This is often caused by iron deficiency.

Although oranges are not a good source of iron, they are very good sources of organic acids, such as vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and citric acid. Vitamin C and citric acid can increase the absorption of iron from the digestive tract.

For sure. It's those 170 phytochemicals and more than 60 flavonoids in the orange that make it such an interesting product to look at. It's more than just the typical vitamin C, which they are known for - it's interesting especially with its phytochemical load. This is one fruit that is definitely loaded with phenolics and carotenoids(violaxanthin). Many, many uses and a very healthy fruit option for desert :-)
