How the food we eat is been digested

If not for science i used to assume the foods i eat digest instantly but it is not as i thought. Digestion goes beyond just chewing of foods and swallowing, it involves other chemical processes of the body organs like stomach, tongue, intestine and so on.

Before food is digested it passes through some some steps or let me say stages which involves the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine.
To start with the mouth, the mouth is the first place that gets the food and that does not really mean the food gets totally digested in mouth. The digestion food begins in the mouth, moreso, the mouth does do it alone it as the teeth which helps in grinding the food into smaller pieces and the tongue helps in rolling the food that is chewed into bolus. This food in bolus form makes it convenient to move down to the stomach.
Also, in the mouth they is salivary gland, this gland secrete or produce saliva which helps in the breaking down of the food into smaller pieces by softening it. The only process of digestion that takes place in the mouth is digestion of food with starch which are usually carbohydrate, the starch is broken down into maltose and then swallowed. But the aid of this break down is as a result of an enzyme which is produce in the salivary gland called ptyalin. Which convert starch to maltose.

After the food is chew and it now in the bolus form it now moves downward through the oesophagus to the stomach. The oesophagus helps thee movement of the food into the stomach.

At the stomach, nearly all the digestion takes place. When the food gets into the stomach it is stored for some hours after it stored, then the churning movement takes place, this movement makes the food to be in a semi liquid form which is called Chyme.

Then the semi liquid food gets to the duodenum.
In this duodenum they is a gland called pancreas gland, then this gland secretes three enzyme which helps in the further digestion of the semi liquid food which are amylase, lipase and trypsin.
The amylase convert the starch food usually carbohydrate into maltose, the lipase fats and oil food into fatty acid or glycerol and on the other hand the trypsin convert proteinous food into peptone. Aside from all these the digestion of fat is aided through and alkaline liquid called bile which also present in the stomach because the stomach itself is alkaline in nature.

After all this digestion as taking place the food then moves to the small intestine, in the small intestine, digestion and well as absorption takes place here. The small intestine also contains alot of enzymes which helps in the further digestion of the food.
And after the actions of the small intestine the food is fully digested. And after the digestion as taking place the food is now absorb in the small intestine and now useful for the body and also the unused ones are passed out as feaces or waste of the body.
