Could AI learn how to love you?

I have to say that I listened to a podcast that was music to my ears. My Hive friend @chekohler bestowed me the other days with a lovely link as a reply to one of my posts, where I talked about a future when AI might replace us at our jobs (read it here if you'd like https://hive.blog/ocd/@creativemary/when-ai-will-replace-you)

The podcast is long, almost 4 hours and it is food for the mind. It is Ben Goertzel talking with Lex Fridman. I can't even express how I enjoyed listening to it ❤️ Here it is if you want to listen - in your car, when you do chores, when you paint etc.

Maybe now you feel bewildered with all of this information given at the beginning of my article. So I will give you my opinion on this and maybe after reading what I feel about the whole thing, you might fancy pursuing the listening of the hefty podcast. So let me write😊

The thing I liked the most about this talk is that I finally felt that all I've been thinking about humanity, the meaning of life, AI and our language is so right. I have moments when I pause my entire existence and question it all. What is beyond ourselves, why do we want to live? Is death the end? Why does it have to be? Could we be more than just a pile of meat looking in the mirror wanting to transcend into a superior form of intelligence, like Goertzel said?

Often I have felt like this so many times throughout my life. Like I want to transcend. Like I feel we are so limited by our body, our society, our ways of expressing.
There are some great points made in this podcast. Some ideas are just so good because they make you think. I liked the idea of transhumanism, going beyond our human body.If you could make multiple versions of you, combine a human form with AGI we could really tap into marvelous options for living. I also strongly believe in singularity net, in creating a society of minds, where different AI could interact and therefore we could improve our existence tremendously.

Our brain is a work of art. Scientist haven't managed yet to make a perfect simulation of the brain functioning and replicate that into a machine. This shows how complex is our mind and how much we have to learn about ourselves in order to make the appropriate technology to enhance ourselves. The plasticity of our brain is the miracle of our mind.

Infusing AI with compassion and love is one of the ideas I like the most. I do agree that we have to infuse the best of what we have as humans into our machines. But I wonder, and I want you to think about it, could AI learn how to love you? Could you imagine a future where part human/part machine or 100% machine could feel like a human feels, despite technical improvements? If love would be learned by a machine, would love continue to hurt, or would this finally be the solution to learn somebody how to love you right? Would this be an end for heartbreaks and tribulations? And I wonder.... If we take the pain out of the love... Would it feel the same? On the other side... How could we make a hate free machine? Is AI a means to fulfill our utopian hidden desires?

I am sure I might even say yes myself to the idea of creating someone who knows how to love you right, reducing pain, anxiety, lies, deceiving. But as an AGI would evolve, could we really create perfection? I have a seed of doubt, because an imperfect human can't create a perfect machine. And love is not perfect...

The important aspect of the future society of minds is, as it is here, decentralization. It is very important to realise that, because I would fear a society where AI would be in the hands of the devious power greedy people.

I would fancy the idea of part human part machine. Our body can fail us while our mind still wants to explore life. If you would find your soulmate and you could both avoid dying by having AI in your life, I am sure most people would do it. I would, because I value love.

I will end my article with a thing Gortzel said which was of a great beauty: our language for expression emotion is very crude, that's what the music is for. I would dare to add my own twist to it and say that's what love is for. A touch, a smile, a hug, can say thousands of words stuck in our mind. You can feel love embracing you without any words. Let's see if AI could ever do that. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below, I am sure I will be getting some interesting replies to this.

Have a gorgeous day and toodle loo!

Ah, I'm so glad you enjoyed it, I think this question you're asking is far too complex for our tiny minds to comprehend but great to speculate. As they said we're not even generally intelligent, we're only generally intelligent based on a 3-dimensional world we've accepted as ours and based on the physics WE've created, surely we'd shape our own world to be one where our minds and way of life is dominant, similar to the way a lion does so in the wild.

What I think? I think love would exist it just won't be as we perceive it to be, it won't be a monogamous love. Love we have now is limited based on our mind and physical parameters, we love our partner, friend and family we pick them, we shape our world we love.

AGI would have a love for everything, have multiple relationships, do what's best for itself and the group on a massive scale, its love we cannot comprehend as we see love as a finite resource we share with a few when to it it will be limitless and can harness its full potential of allowing each part of it to know each part of all its interconnections

Lol at least that's what I think

Hey! Interesting perspective. I agree on the limited way we see love. We witness people showing love towards their family only to be ruthless with others, creating disharmony in the society.

There are also other type of behaviours which people often confuse with love:lust, necessity, conformity, narcissism, toxic relationships. How many people stay in bad relationships or only for the kids/mortgage confusing that with love?

I think of love as beeing a very noble feeling. And yes the universality of love would mean that an advanced civilization would be able to have compassion and love for all the citizens. I love my kid but I also love your kid because I realize we are all connected and for progress to happen we need more altruism injected in love. Of course that this would require superior intelligence and a different way of society to work.

I believe in AI being able to provide us with more years. Death by aging, while the mind is still in its prime, is a flaw of the humans as a specie. Imagine if all the brilliant scientist wouldn't had to die, being able to still live and provide us with ideas and concepts.

I think our body will be obsolete and our minds will be the ones which will matter. The mind creates the reality, no matter if that is simulation or reality itself. The mind can store massive amounts of data, and the body fails. The mind can love, hate, create, imagine while the body ages. So now I see that it would be better for us to find ways to remain mentally present in the Universe. Somehow.

When the body will dissapear or be reinvented, the shallowness that people have now for chosing the partner only for physical appearance will dissapear. It will be a completely different method of selection, based purely on mind compatibility. Which, I believe, is what trully matters in love. Two minds in love with each other can remain like this forever, that is why the body will be obsolete.

A society of the minds. That would be amazing.

Ok I have written so much lol. My brain loves this kind of talks hihi. Thanks for reading me📖😁

Dr. Goertzel is one of the most reliable people to listen to when it comes to AI. I've been just waiting for his new updates. He was actually supposed to have a yearly update on Joe Rogan podcast and I don't have any idea why it hasn't pushed through yet. Anyways, I am going to listen to this one for sure. and I suggest you listen to his podcast with Rogan, which happened 2 years ago too.

Personally, I am open to merging with AI and have the next level of life. Obviously we are going somewhere and most people seem to be sleeping on it. I just don't know if we'll be what we are now and that's for us to find out when we flip the switch.
It's just the best time to be alive and if the Singularity happens by 2045, we'd be luckiest as we'll be witnessing a magnificent event. I am very excited about what is to come in the coming years. :) <3

Hey! He has a brilliant mind, it is a pleasure to listen to somebody like this.

I actually look forward for the upcoming years just because I see great potential in AI. Just to think about the fact that we, as humans, will be able to store our conscience and memories digitally and therefore to avoid the burden of biological meltdown... It would be incredible. I think that the idea of death will change. I find it sad that some brilliant minds had to die just because their body failed them. I think it opens entire possibilities for humans, far beyond our imagination.

With love..well that will be a challenge. But after all... How can we define and pin point exactly what love is and how to recreate it?

I think it would be a great achievement to have a real live brain mapping in the future. We are far from understanding our own minds and barely tapped our own creative potential. I think that if scientists will be able to figure out how our brain is designed to work and what does what... Then we will reach another level. Our bodies will no longer matter as much as the potential of our mind. Once you merge that with AI. Imagine....

Thank you for reading and I will listen the link.

I think human emotion is irreplaceable by technology for sure. I adore AI for work efficiency but for love you need to find yourself wrapped around human's arms.
By the way I adore the way you write, keep flourishing.

Hey! I agree that human emotion is important. But there are a couple of negative emotions like anger, hate, frustration, which set us back. Love is a beautiful emotion and very complex, that is why I think it will be the biggest challenge to make AI love like a human would. But maybe a cooperation between AI and the human mind might make us erase the negative aspects of our mind or at least control them better.

I think it is nice to have a hug, a touch. It matters. But what if humanity will manage to make technology to replace your old human body with a new one? You would still feel the same love towards your partner, because you experience love through your mind, therefore the body is only an extension.

It is an interesting topic for debate and I love writing about it, especially that I can see so many intelligent people on Hive who can comprehend what I am writing and why do I write it.

Thank you for reading this😊

I agree to your words but one thing that Humans are created as a combination of emotions I guess balance should be there everywhere which is why nature created us with both negative as well as positive emotions. I guess AI might replace humans on various kind of works but entirely humans are irreplaceable when it comes to emotions.
anyways there might be more to AI in future which hasn't unfolded its characters yet.
I too love to engage in this platform as it is decreasing now a days It feels good:)

I agree. I think merging AI with people is better because the human mind can't be entirely replaced and emotions are yet to be understood. Thanks for stopping by and reading, have a wonderful day!
