Scientists built a genius device that generates electricity 'out of thin air'

Scientists at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have developed a device, that uses a natural protein to generate electricity from just the humidity in the air.

It does not come out of nowhere but almost, the device, called "Airgen", connects electrodes to the protein nanowires in such a way that electric current is generated from the water vapor present in the air.

The miracle is produced by a bacterium called Geobacter sulfurreducens. which can generate electricity in an aqueous environment and whose proteins are used to make such nanowires.

This new technology does not pollute, it is renewable and low cost. It can generate energy even in areas with extremely low humidity, such as the Sahara desert.

Its projects include the development of a small “patch” ‘Air-gen’ that can power portable electronic devices such as wearables, which would eliminate the requirement of traditional batteries.
