First Gene-Edited Reptile: An Albino Lizard

The genetic edition returns to the news through the CRISPR technique, this time to genetically modify a lizard and make it albino, eliminating the "tyrosinase" gene, which is responsible for the production of the pigment that gives color to the lizard.

The great news of all this is that it is the first time it can be done in reptiles. The CRISPR technique is applied to freshly fertilized eggs, which is complicated to do in animals that reproduce by eggs (oviparous).

The scientists in charge of this project noticed that the transparent membrane that covers the ovaries of the lizards allowed them to see which ovules would be fertilized.

Why he has given them to make a lizard albina seems to be that this genetic modification is not lethal to the lizard and allows us to investigate some blindness disorders that albino people suffer.

The truth is that all these things, at least to me, as little they intimidate me, will have to trust the purposes of all these people.
