NVMe SSD - Macro circuit photography

avatar
(Edited)

Ive had some bad luck with these little drives, two of them have burned out in a year. They are real quick when they work, making Windows load in 30 seconds or less. And reloading quick loads in games makes a big difference too. Since these are broken I just have them laying around, I should warranty them but have not yet.

Many resistors can be seen on the NVMe drive, and something marked e25 Da, no idea what it is and a google search came up with nothing. Seems to have a ring of gold around it as well.. Curious what it is.

Using my new GH3 that sees in visual light only, I put my macro lens on it and take some pictures of the components on the silicon.

I see some black resisters, most are a dull yellow color so I wonder what the black means. Maybe its the Ohm rating...

Eventhough the board is black, I can still see the traces under the surface. Love the design and how they follow so close to each other.

The gold fingers can be seen at the bottom of the drive, those go where the motherboard connects to the drive. They have a very thin layer of gold on them to improve conductivity. Wear can be seen on these fingers, from being placed into a tension connector scratching them a little bit.

More gold can be found where the screw is placed to hold the drive secure. It appears to have a layer of gold on it as well, probably acts as a ground for the drive. Other rings can be seen off to the right of the drive, I am not sure the function of those, maybe a debug / flash port for the manufacturer. Another dot of gold is seen to the left, and I do not know its function as well. Many mysteries for me when looking at electrical components.

I think it is very cool how things look when you get so close to it.
I like that you took something man-made to take a photo of!!

Very interesting choice of subject for your photos. It is quite fascinating.

Having repaired computers as a side-line over the years it is very interesting to see a strange beauty in different circuit boards.

Thank you for sharing this photo shoot on the #PYPT Show!
