Forest Fire Smoke in Australia

Starting about 1:10 in this video, you can see the smoke from the Australian fires from space and some of the heat signatures.

I am unsurprised by the fires in Australia. I try to clarify the entire man-made climate change discussion when I talk to people by describing CO2 to be like a cardigan. While it helps keep you a little warm, it does not enough when one is in a blizzard. The fact that earth will be closest to the sun on January 5, 2020 (in my part of the world) should be providing more energy to the equation. It is lucky that the sunspots and other solar phenomena are relatively quiet (virtually non-existent?). If the proximity to the sun was compounded with full sunspot activity, the weather in the South would be more dramatic than it is.
