Plastic Nightmare, The Worst Is Yet To Come...

(Edited)

The issue of plastic waste is one that should keep all of us awake at night because it is going to get much worse since it cannot get any better. Plastic never goes really away but breaks down into tiny particles. Even if we'd find a way to recycle plastics, we still are overproducing them as if there are no tomorrows.

In 50 years from now , the Earth will be blanketed by microplastics choking all life on earth. Cyborgs feasting on synthetic protein shakes and other AI bots might just do well in that environment. It is absolutely not far fetched but the reality, folks!

In this case it crystal clear that our government isn't interested in banning all plastics overnight but pretty fine with causing 100K businesses to close for good, arguing that it is for covid19 health concerns.

Or cynically, after many will have died from the untested coronavirus vaccines, prolonged lockdowns' side-effects over the years (remember that we are told that covid is here to stay for at least 5 to 10 years) as the result of a global full economic collapse, who cares after all? That too will decrease plastic production worldwide!

Covid19 is just a bad flu strain rebranded this way but PCV spreading cancers like wildfire is not important of course. What an eye-opener, don't you think? It is not about our health, it's obvious. So on one end, we have the medical experts working for the National Cancer Institute, and on the other end, we have scientists seeing nothing wrong with PVC and working on making it more efficient (lethal) continually. That type of paradoxes should not be allowed in the scientific field but are the result of profits before life mentality. Such contradictions will end science as we know it -- and monetarism as well.

When money rules the game, short-term actions always wins over because profits cannot be delayed nor lessened otherwise losses ensue. Everybody wants money NOW. This is why thinking wisely is discouraged. Think about all the people who have 401K and IRAs or savings. When the economy will take a dive and currencies collapse, most people will have lost everything.

Long-term does not work unless one knows a few tricks about the markets. Honest and hard working people generally lose their shirts. Consider this: CNBC said that 19% have missed their July rent payment and 13% only made a partial payment... what is going to happen in August then? Okay, this was a short digression evidencing that savings and capitalism generally do not get along.

So now here are we, stuck with this plastic crisis which is going to get much dire as time goes. But since we are headed for the demise of a 5000yo myth (which of taking out more than what one puts in, and causing poverty) why not accepting that once and for all that the battle is lost for good, and let the system just go under?

The rebellion that we need is to quit complying. It can be done by staying at home and growing one's food indoor and indoor and helping one another. If 50% were doing that, governments would have to cave in. The elites would run for their lives!

We need a silent revolution!

Life is a dream and as I age I realize this more and more... when looking back sometimes, I ask myself, why did I take it so seriously back then?... and then I look at our capitalist society... and BINGO!! Our societal structure really wants us to miss what is the most beautiful of life: that is it's a dream that can make almost anything possible!!

Very soon each of us will have to reject the FEAR that prevents us from saving the dream of being a human.

Further Readings

Plastic waste entering oceans expected to triple in 20 years (JULY 2020) GUARDIAN.UK: Efforts to cut waste will reduce volume only by about 7%, say researchers. Previous estimates put the amount of plastic reaching the oceans each year at about 8m tonnes, but the true figure is much higher at about 11m tonnes, according to the paper published in the journal Science. If current trends continue, the amount of plastic waste polluting the oceans will grow to 29m tonnes a year by 2040, the equivalent of 50kg for every metre of coastline in the world. All the efforts made and announced so far to cut plastic waste, by governments and companies, will reduce that projected volume by only about 7% by 2040.

More stringent measures would produce a drastic reduction in waste, according to the researchers. These include improving waste collection, particularly in the developing world, and recycling more waste, as well as investing in alternative materials and better product design to reduce the amount of plastic used. Such measures would require an investment of about $150bn globally in the next five years, but would yield $70bn in savings compared with the $670bn cost to governments of inefficient waste management between now and 2040, while cutting the greenhouse gas emissions associated with plastic by about a quarter, and creating as many as 700,000 jobs.

There is no silver bullet, there is no solution that can simply be applied – lots of policies are wanted. You need innovation and systems change.” Such change will require governments to overhaul their waste systems particularly, but also to look at ways to design plastic waste out of products. But action was needed urgently, he said, as once plastic reaches the sea it is almost impossible to get it out again.“That there is likely to be three times more plastic waste by 2040 is a shocking revelation,” he said.

Why Is PVC Bad for the Environment? (July 2020) Why is PVC harmful? PVC is detrimental to both peoples’ health and the environment. One of the clearest reasons why PVC is harmful is its direct correlation to increased risk of cancer. The National Cancer Institute claims that exposure to PVC is “associated with an increased risk of a rare form of liver cancer (hepatic angiosarcoma), as well as brain and lung cancers, lymphoma, and leukemia.” But cancer is not the only way in which vinyl is harmful. According to Greenpeace, “PVC contaminates humans and the environment throughout its lifecycle during its production, use, and disposal. While all plastics pose serious threats to human health and the environment, few consumers realize that PVC is the single most environmentally damaging of all plastics.”

Awesome, I get to once again mention the wonderful people at The Ocean Cleanup!
https://theoceancleanup.com/
These people are really going at the problem of plastics. They invented a way to passively concentrate the ocean plastic for easy collection onto barges.

Our floating systems are designed to capture plastics ranging from small pieces just millimeters in size, up to large debris, including massive discarded fishing nets (ghost nets), which can be tens of meters wide.

Models show that a full-scale cleanup system roll-out could clean 50% of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in just five years.

After fleets of systems are deployed into every ocean gyre, combined with source reduction, The Ocean Cleanup projects to be able to remove 90% of ocean plastic by 2040.

Way to go guys!

Are they stopping there? NO! They have created a river cleaning system. Almost all plastics reach the ocean via river. These guys have a plan to catch the plastic before it even gets to the ocean.

The Interceptor is The Ocean Cleanup’s answer for river plastic waste. It is the first scalable solution to prevent plastic from entering the world’s oceans from rivers.

It is 100% solar-powered, extracts plastic autonomously, and is capable of operating in the majority of the world’s most polluting rivers.

The Interceptor can extract 50,000 kilograms of plastic per day. In optimal conditions, up to double this amount can be achieved.

The Interceptor can work autonomously until it’s full and can continue extracting debris even when the dumpsters are being emptied.

Its large storage capacity allows for efficient emptying cycles, filling entire garbage trucks at once.

They have systems working in two rivers already and are increasing their fleet as fast as money will allow.
Soon everyone will be able to help out buy buying their products that they make from the recycled plastics they gather! Check here for details:
