Bible spam update: Payouts on comments are now being declined

(Edited)

I wrote a post last week talking about how the bible spam is being monetized on Hive. One of the bible spam accounts was upvoting each other giving around .25c per comment, dozens of times a day.

Well since mentioning this user, I got a reply back. They state it is not their intention to spam, just want to get the word out about their organization. I was surprised to receive a reply from them. And replied promptly.

Shortly after this I started to see a change in how the comments were being displayed. No more self upvotes and also the payouts have been set to decline.

Speaking with a Hive witness, we had the idea of having their comment beneficiary set to @null which would effectively burn rewards making the Hive token supply less bringing up its price. I sent them a message on discord discussing this, but did not get a reply.

I also mentioned they can set their beneficiary to @steem.dao to help the Decentralized Hive Fund. Weird we still call it steem.dao though..

Logging into Hive-DR (formerly Steemflagrewards) I mentioned the update, but seems this is not acceptable to some. I think its progress, but it would be nice if they would burn their rewards or set it to goto the DAO.

I let them know if they need help doing this just to ask me, though it seems declining payouts is as much as they want to do at this point. Im just glad to see the upvoting circle of bible accounts have stopped on their comment spam. But maybe one day they will come around and give those rewards back to the community. By burning or to giving to the DAO to support current and future Hive proposals.

thanks man, I see people doing two things.. Ignoring them or downvoting them to oblivion. One member of Hive-DR tried talking with them but at the time it did not do much. So glad they are now more open to communication.

@gregory-f thanks alot, yeah turning spam into something valuable to the community would be nice. But seems they do not want to go that route.. at least at the moment.

It certainly is their intention to spam, they asked to be removed off the blacklist, when I said no they said fine I will start the bots on Hive. I've been nuking most of their rewards and as they come up they are blacklisted and removed from the UI.

Ah yeah I see they are marked by spaminator and buildawhale. I appreciate you running these lists, when I curate it helps me decide alot quicker if I want to support their content or not.

Thats good its hidden, though I hope its possible to turn off a blacklist filter in the settings of the apps if one wants to see everything. Maybe hive.blog will be like steemit, showing everything. And then using peakd with filters pointed to blacklists will show a cleaned up experience that better represents the Hive community.

Yeah that sucks, I heard comments are being hidden as well these days on Steem. Showing up as -1 comments.

What I meant was, steemit is like a firehose of data and not really filtered. Which is what is so appealing to steempeak or peakd on Hive. How we can filter out alot of content. But like I said if blacklists are not filterable, I think its still censorship.

Back to the censorship on Steem, yes it makes me quite sad its come to this. Im leaving as quick as possible powering down any stake I got. After seeing .8888 block users funds I was completely done with it all.

Remember that Christ did not charge to spread his message nor did he authorize his followers to profit from this activity, so why want to earn "something" through spam here in Hive (or Steem or if there are other similar platforms). I thought it was a good idea that this type of content, even if someone votes for it, does not grant money to the author.

Heh yeah I think some think they are exempt from following the rules themselves. Idk if its ego or just ignorance.

Yeah its nice they changed it to decline payouts

Spam should be discouraged no matter how noble the intent. Something about the road to hell and all that...

I agree, and thats why I downvote them if they try to profit from their comment spam.

Hehe yeah seems this groups is kind loose on what they practice and preach.

It doesn't seem to be working out that great.

Still farming. I have removed the rewards.

Heh that did not last long, I guess their greed is too strong seeing their vote value triple in the last few days.

thanks for the heads up, ill keep an eye on their rewards as well.
