+1 boy will speak English soon:)
It's high time for my son to enter the world of English language:)

He is 6 now, and I know many parents start studying foreign languages much earlier. I though about it too. I read much information and opinions of different specialists about this question. I doubted and thought about it carefully, and I decided not to be in a hurry.
Yes, there are many + in early studying of languages, and I respect bilingual approach very much, but I have no native speaker nearby, so it was hard to realize it.

Moreover, my boy started to speak his mother tongue rather late, he is a left-hander, and it's ok for them, and I never tried to speed up his own way of development.

I am sure that every kis is a personality, and he has his right to develop how HIS nature requires it.

I understood that early English would bring difficulties in his mother tongue development of sounds and speech. These languages are too different, and it was more important for me to help him pronounce Russian sounds well, and when his tongue would be strong enough, it would be no problem to add English ones - that was my decision.

I know many parents whose kids studied English at the age of 3-5, and they know some words and some poems, no more, so I didn't see any sense to be in a hurry.

And one more important moment - A KID SHOULD HAVE INTEREST TO A FOREIGN LANGUAGE.

At early childhood it's impossible.
Now my son is 6, he speaks Russian well + some months ago he started to ask questions about English words (when he heard them in songs or in the Web-world). So it's logical to show him this very strang language closer;)

So HOW to start teaching?

Again I read a lot about it, and decided to make it close to how a baby studies his mother tongue.

Parents speak it,
sing songs, tell poems
parents speak it slower many times until a baby starts to repeat it well
and play different games to show a baby different subjects and their names.

I decided it is the most natural way and decided to try it.

So I bought our first English book where there are simple phrases of everyday life + morning exercises with words + some short poems and rhymes.

Now we do our morning sport with English words;) We did it 3 times already, and my son already knows well these first phrases.

He speaks them + he does exercises too, and the memory + moves give perfect and fast results!

And of course, cards!

We had a lot of them when he was small, and we studied Russian words.
They worked fine!

Now it's the same with English;)

We started with things that surround him at home every day because it's easy to repeat these words often + we can stick the cards on the things to make some kind of visualisation;)

and cards give great choice of games and funny exercises
This methos gives great results too, I know it for sure, from my own experience;)

  • I plan to add English cartoons for him

Let's see what will give the best results;)

So I do hope my method will work fine!

Guys, how do you teach your kids?

Am very delighted to see these progress from your child. You've done well to teach me his mother tongue first. These generation is really losing the value of their mother tongue and this has destroyed the cultural values. Foreign languages are secondary languages. Teaching the mother tongue first gives you an edge. Thanks for respecting your mother tongue. In my country Nigeria, most families prefer their children to speak Queens English than their mother tongue. You're at the right path. Thanks once again.

you're right, and here in Russia there is such a tendency too. Youth is fond of using English, but without good knowledge in it, just some slang words which they add to their oral speech to seem cool. It looks stupid because Russian is a very rich language, and there are a lot of words here to express anything you want by dozens of ways. It's just fashion, but this fashion leads to losing connection with your own culture and language. It's a tragedy..
