Terpene Series: Limonene // Série Terpenos: Limoneno

Continuing the project of talking a little about all the main terpenes found in cannabis (and other plants), a series that started here, now I'm going to talk a little about Limonene. Another very popular and classic terpene, often present in some aromatic strains.

Knowing that Limonene is a terpene that is very abundant in nature, it is already clear that it is the aromatic compound responsible for giving the tones of citrus fruits. Lemon, orange, tangerine, all are very rich in this terpene, but many trees are too, such as Cedar. In nature, Limonene exists as a natural plant repellent to ward off insects. Due to its abundance, it is in great demand in the pharmaceutical and food industry. Limonene is the second most abundant terpene in cannabis, second only to myrcene. If you did not find many aromas that refer to lemon in the genetics you have already cultivated or tried, this is because depending on its chemical degradation or even nuances at the expense of other terpenes present in the strain, limonene may lean towards other fruity aromas, like pineapple, grapes and even ice cream.

Like all other terpenes, Limonene comes with a list of well-studied benefits for human health: Antiseptic, antitumor, antimicrobial, relieves reflux and heartburn, reduces anxiety, improves mood, reduces stress, and so on. Some of the most popular strains that contain strong traces of limonene are: Super Lemon Haze, Jack Herer, Lemons Skunk, Tangie and Durban Poison. As mentioned earlier, terpenes are heat sensitive and the best way to consume them without destroying them is to use a vaporizer, with temperatures ranging from 180°C to 210°C (356°F to 410°F). In the case of Limonene, specifically 177 °C / 350 °F.

No caso do Limoneno, especificamente 177 °C / 350 °F.
