Smoking interferes with the quality of psychiatric treatment // Fumar interfere na qualidade do tratamento psiquiátrico

I recently discovered through trial and error that smoking also gets in the way of psychiatric treatment. I say "also" because I've had to cut alcohol and cannabis from my sporadic use for the same factors, each in their own way interfere with treatment. In this case, alcohol only slightly softens the effect of the drug on the day it is used and depending on how much you drink it can have very compromising effects on mental and physical health. Cannabis does not directly affect the medication I use, but its use has become unfeasible given that the last experiences I had were of intense panic and despair caused by the THC alteration in the mind. So I abstained from these habits, only the occasional beer I could keep. And as for nicotine, I had been using it in cigarettes rolled with very light tobacco, but noticing some drops in the treatment (a marked emotional worsening, I started researching possible interactions, such as caffeine and ended up finding out about nicotine interacting negatively with my medication .Let's go for more details.

Tobacco acts on the liver's CYP450 enzymes in the same way as many psychiatric drugs, which means that such drugs have to compete with tobacco to be "activated". Incidentally, specifically the duloxetine that is my current medication is one of the most severely impeded by the concomitant use of nicotine. At least I found that out a while ago. I stopped smoking (which was not yet an addiction) about 5 days ago I think, and I already see a subtle benefit, now that duloxetine is able to work efficiently in my body. But it is worth mentioning the name of the other drugs that can also be harmed by the habit of smoking:

Duloxetine (Cymbalta)
caffeine
Clopidogrel (Plavix)
Clozapine (Clozaril)
Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril)
Diazepam (Valium)
Haloperidol (Hadol)
Mirtazapine (Remeron)
Naproxen (Aleve)
Nortriptyline (Pamelor)
Olanzapine (Zyprexa)
Ondansetron (Zofran)
Propanolol (Inderal)
Ropinirole (Requip)
Theophylline (Theo-24)

People tend to give all infinite arguments for not smoking, like the most critical of all: Cancer, but still people smoke. And my habit came only from the desire for the little concentration and relief that the ritual and smoking habit caused, but there is ONE way to convince me of anything, and that is through my desire to save my mind, get rid of my psychological problems, and if smoking is getting in the way of the healing process, I stop smoking and that's it. In the same way that I'm starting to do now with sugar, cut the habit of consuming mainly sweets and chocolates, but everything that contains sugar too, because I know that this will affect not only my weight (for the better) but also my mind , and I can't wait to get rid of this dependency. Sugar is much, much more complicated than any other drug, that's a fact. But it's also a topic for another post. Thank you and see you later.

Então ausentei-me desses hábitos, apenas a cerveja ocasional eu poderei manter.

Duloxetine (Cymbalta)
Caffeine
Clopidogrel (Plavix)
Clozapine (Clozaril)
Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril)
Diazepam (Valium)
Haloperidol (Hadol)
Mirtazapine (Remeron)
Naproxen (Aleve)
Nortriptyline (Pamelor)
Olanzapine (Zyprexa)
Ondansetron (Zofran)
Propanolol (Inderal)
Ropinirole (Requip)
Theophylline (Theo-24)
