A Hole in the Head - The History of Trepanation // Um buraco na cabeça - A história da trepanação

avatar

When I got to know the concept of trepanation many years ago, I was fascinated by the bizarre technique and famous for being totally averse to everything science and medicine preach. And even more fascinated by the fact that people who were dedicated to achieving trepanation went so deep in their studies that they even decided to do this surgery themselves, and even that was "part of the process."

Source

Trepanation is a very old experimental surgical procedure, some evidence points to trepanation that occurred in the Neolithic period, probably with the intention of alleviating terrible crises of cerebral pressure and excruciating pain. Its evolution in more recent times collides with very unscientific issues, trepanation was originally used as a means to "release possible demons" that made the person act inappropriately. Over the centuries, the search for trepanation had other purposes, much less mystical and fanciful, and which even explained the illusory vision of past trepanators: cerebral pressure relief, migraine, eliminating seizures, depression relief and mental crises in general .

Source

Of course, modern medicine does not consider trepanation an advisable procedure and in no way performs this type of act based on the patient's desire to "Expand Consciousness". Oh yes, I forgot to mention, one of the main reasons for those interested in trepanation is a supposed "expansion of consciousness" that happens when brain pressure relief is achieved after trepanation. And given that no doctor is going to accept that argument, candidates for the consciousness 2.0 project need to find their own way to achieve this brain relief.

The internet provides us with countless accounts of people who made their own trepanation, but one of the most fascinating stories is that of Bart Huges and his girlfriend, who deeply researched the topic. Huges developed a very elaborate concept which proposes that the blood level in the brain is out of balance due to evolutionary factors and this not only complicates our cognition, emotional state but that it is also responsible for several brain health problems. He called his treatise "Man Sapiens Correctus" or also "The Mechanism of Brainbloodvolume ('BBV')".

Source

Bart Huges and Amanda Feilding decided to do the trepanation themselves and documented everything in films, photos and texts. They used a dentist's drill for the act, on January 6, 1965. The process itself and its documentation are a show in itself. Although the entire procedure and idea were successfully carried out and both remained alive and healthy until the age of 70, the "trepanation cult" remains quite limited with very few adherents and science continues to ignore anything about "relieving the pressure brain". Both Huges and Feilding claim that since the trepanation they feel a continual relief, a feeling of being slightly "stoned" forever.

Source

This is something I would actually consider myself in the following years. Do you know about any online communities focused on this topic?

I even got a contact to one guy in Berlin who performs such procedure, but I need to know more about it.

Hey man, Sorry for the delay in replying! I was particularly curious about the topic but I wouldn't have the courage unless I really needed it, like people who have chronic migraines etc. But interesting that you researched people who do the procedure, do you know his name? It's fascinating indeed. What would your intentions be to do?

I would treat this as a wellness procedure and body modification thing. I don't buy getting high with borehole narration. This is some marketing bullshit. Even if I would feel slightly lighter I would consider this as a natural state which we lose while our skull is getting stiff when we are kids. The way of thinking here is that tense state comes from unbalanced pressure ratio of cerebrospinal fluid and blood which doesn't allow the toxins getting rid oit of the brain. But as I said, I would have to meet people who did it and get to know more about their experience. The guy in known as Beto Rea, he is Mexican living in Berlin doing ceremonial body modification.

Great, thanks for explain. Now, I'm very curious about "cerimonial body modification", this is like something that I love to research about. Maybe bring in another post hehe.
