Technology: A Systematic Approach To Solving Problems

avatar

I like building systems because they make things less chaotic, more organised and understandable. At the heart of it, they put things into perspective and give them new meanings. That said, it seems that not everything can be systemised.

For example, I've tried to systemise my thinking to prevent unnecessary thoughts so that I can do more but it didn't work out well. Isn't it interesting that one of the sources through which we create systems can't be systemized. Or can it?

Technology is a vehicle to create and build systems. One of its definitions is the organisation of knowledge for practical purposes. That's how the invention of a car or a smartphone came about.

Nowadays, there's knowledge in plenty, good progress is made in organising it but the practical purposes are a bit lacking in my view. Instead of piling gold for it to eat dust, we should learn how to deploy it to work.

Building Better And Efficient Systems

Creating and building are almost interchangeable but there's a slight difference between them. Creating is something entirely new, it isn't necessarily so for building. In a way, all creators are builders but not all builders are creators. From riding horses to driving cars is something entirely new. It is not so from driving a car to a car driving itself. But yes, it's still a huge breakthrough.

With technology, every new iteration can be better. Albeit, it comes with a cost of adding more systems, making it a bit more complex. However, complex solutions are unavoidable when solving complex problems in an increasingly complex world. Generally, the world is getting bigger and one of the effects of that is bigger problems.

I know technology is not a panacea for solving our problems but I still argue that it can help solve most of our problems, especially the pressing and bigger ones. Oftentimes, one of the main reasons why we can't solve a problem is because there usually isn't any systematic approach created to deal with it(a problem) and come up with ways to solve it.

Domino Effect Of More Problems

Taking my country as an example. Not only has The Gambia lack proper systems but the systems in place have been obsolete for a long time ago. And this has created a domino effect of more problems from the road infrastructure to the education system.

Taking socio-political reasons aside, solving these problems are quite easy with technology. It's not like creating new systems, the systems have already been created and built. We just have to plug and play, adapting to the environment.

But nay, people make believe that the problems are unsolvable and the ones in charge try solving them in an unpractical manner, without touching the heart of the said problem. I'm not sure whether this is intentional or not but I've realised that many government policy makers are antagonistic to technology and its systematic approach.

Conclusion

I'm not saying the technological approach is superior to other approaches in solving our national or global problems. But it is usually the one that can get to the core of things and bring in concrete results. Besides, we're living in a technological age so we could learn to think or do things more systematically.

Technology is the only thing that has taken us out of the worst barbarism that humanity, as a species, has had to endure. It is the greatest and most important invention of our time under the sun. And curiously, it is also the reason why you and I are here, talking to each other and interacting with each other, thousands of miles apart. Brilliant post. @takhar

Absolutely! Technology is indeed the most important invention that keeps delivering us out of problems we thought unsolvable. Look at gap it has bridge in communications in which we can interact in many ways with anyone in a distant part of the world like how we're doing right now. It's simply fascinating!!
Thank you! And thanks for stopping by :)
