STEMsocial Distilled - The tchooo tchooo edition!

in StemSociallast month

For a change, it is @lemouth who wrote this edition of the distilled. By virtue of the French train system (see below), @gentleshaid can now rest a little. Let’s all thank him a lot for his help for the two (or maybe three) last editions.

In the "STEMsocial distilled" series, we select five out of the most engaging of the best blogs posted within the STEMsocial community during the previous week (I know the current week is almost finished... but well, better late than never for the previous one). There is moreover an additional requirement that any single author can only be featured once in three weeks.

The title of this distilled is easy to understand. I left work as usual in order to come back home by train. Let's call my train "train #1". The engine of train #1 broke after 15 minutes. A bit later, I embarked into train #2 who was fully packed and supposed to replace train #1. In this train, something broke 10 minutes later, still very far from home (like Spiderman). Finally, they fixed it and train #2 brought me home... What a journey (the time spent in train exactly doubled)... The good news is that such a train configuration is however perfect to write a distilled!

In passing, we remind that the STEMsocial community is one of the oldest curation projects on Hive. Our area of focus includes all branches of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, psychology, history, architecture, health and many more. You can learn more about the community directly on chain, or by passing through our Discord server.

Below are the posts that made it into this week's top five.

Our top choices

History of honey

In this blog, @oscurity continues his travel with us inside Portugal. Today, he brings us into a museum from Madeira that is dedicated to honey, from its production to the making of derived products. In addition, we can learn several interesting facts related to a connection between honey and several historical characters. We should note that his blog is also a good excuse to put a finger on current issues with bees, pollinisation processes and climate changes.

After-birth abnormalities

We now slightly change topic and move on with one of the blogs of @nazom in which she discussed issues that could come after birth. Those problems concern the placenta, an organ vital for the in-utero's life of the baby. Many complication can arise when the placenta decides to get crazy, and leads to abruptio placenta, placenta previa, placenta accreta or retained placenta. To know more about the differences, I refer to the blog as this is a bit far from my expertise.

Why hypertension?

What happens if you placed a glass of coke in a freezer and leave it there for a couple of weeks? Well there is a link with the topic of this post, as @sam9999 showed us, and I let you guess what it is. Blood pressure is in fact an important feature to monitor, and not doing it can result in severe issues. It can even kill you!

Why we should consider consuming cockroaches

Do you like cockroaches? Most would probably answer negatively to this question. However, cockroaches could consist in a very intersting meal. @dr-mec explains this to us, that the amount of proteins inside these insects makes them a primer meal. If you prefer drinking over eating, consider cockroach milk instead. Yeah... this exists!

Building Information Modelling

Building information modeling is a very interesting activity that helps to understand how to model building, complex structure or large infrastructure. @boluman provides us a wealth of details about how this piece of technology works and how useful it is for the construction industry.

As usual, all rewards earned on the distilled posts are used to fund the STEMsocial project functioning and activities. The author of the distilled, who may be any STEMsocial member depending on the week, gets 30% of the rewards of this post. Moreover, @raj808 gets 7% for the usage of his image. If you like what we do, please consider joining our community on HIVE and delegating to the @stemsocial account (85% of the curation rewards are returned), or trailing it.

Have fun!

What a journey you had! On the bright side, the delays probably gave you more time to finish up with this distilled :)

These selections are really cool. Congratulations to the authors.

I guess we'll never know if @lemouth's getting on 2 trains and them both breaking shortly afterwards was correlation or causation.

Since the second train never broke and as I take the train every single working day (and in most cases everything is alright), I am probably safe relative to this matter ;)

Don't tell me... With the present temperatures, I was basically melting in the crowded train... By the way, it happens that the second train was blocked due to people on the tracks... In fact, this was a false positive... Conclusions: lovely communication by the railroad managers :D

Haha, kept wondering what "tchoo tchoo means 😅.
My dictionary tells me hey dude, your word ain't familiar.

Thought it was actually a dictionary word.😆
Great selection by the way for the week. Well done guys.

I just tried to mimic the sound an old train does. Therefore, it is not a regular word at all :D

Thanks a lot for the recognition here, this is really a great encouragement.

You are welcome. It was a real pleasure for us (or at least for me ;) ) to read your blogs!

Have a nice week-end!

Great selection of posts! Who likes to eat tomahawk stop by!

I had one a couple of weeks ago. Those are wonderful pieces of meat! :)
