STEMng Digest: Never stop learning

Authored by @gentleshaid

Continuous learning is quite essential in life and only death should stop anyone from learning. Knowledge can actually elongate the lifespan of people as we can see from the various breakthroughs in the field of science and medicine. On hive, every blog is passing a message and even the shortest of posts may have messages that can save the life of many. As we are writing and earning, do not let us forget to also learn by consuming other people's contents and engaging them as much as time we permit.

Welcome to a new edition of our weekly digest.

Who are we?

STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain is highlighted on weekly basis.

Below are the posts that made our digest for this week:

  1. @mengene: BONES are more than just a Structural Framework)

Many of us are familiar with the basic functions of bones in the body and that's about that. Our first post for this week talks about the functions of bones in the body beyond the obvious ones to those of us that have never taken time out to go deeper into the functions of bones. If anyone wish to get more enlightened on the functions of bones, give the post a read.

2.@bhoa: Houseman tales: My HIV experience

The medical folks are back after a short break. This time, one of our doctors shared his experience working as an intern in a neonatal ward. The story is about how the doctor had a very close shave with HIV as a result of attending to some of the patients whose mother happened to have HIV but decided to keep it a top secret from everyone else. A really touching story but one that further expose the deteriorating condition of the health sector of our country, Nigeria.

3.@young-boss-karin: My struggle with hemorrhoids

Here is another health related post but this time, not from a medical doctor. The author talks about her struggle with a particular health issue known as hemorrhoids. In reality, the condition is actually more common than many people think, just that it has been given a wide range of names and many think it is a result of eating too much carbohydrates in their diets. By the way, this is a post many will benefit from. Totally worth a read.

4.@oluwatobiloba: The Possibility of getting an Infection from a Dog Bite.

Dogs! A pet that can be the best friend of some people while be the greatest enemy of others. Here is a post talking about the chances of getting pathological infections from the bites of dogs. Of course, no one wishes to get bitten by a dog, infection or otherwise. However, the post educates on what to do in case it happens and how to know that one has been infected as a result of the bite or otherwise.

5.@cyprianj: How to differentiate an animal blood from a human blood: its importance in forensic science

Just as we had it in the last edition, rounding up this week's digest is this post from one of the veterans in the community talking about the technicality of differentiating between humans and animal bloods. While the blood of humans and non-mammal animals can be distinguished physically due to their colors, the blood of humans and other mammalian may not be as easy. Thus, only microscopically analysis can indicate the differences for those that know. The blog is as interesting and as educating as ever.

If you are a content creator on Hive and wondering how you can participate in the community, all you need to do would to:

You are welcome. At least, we can push the situation out to the world so that everyone knows what the current state is.

What a great collection of articles. I read the one by @bhoa already, but the others look fascinating. Good bedtime reading.
