STEMng Digest: Forging Ahead

Authored by @gentleshaid

Life is filled with different experiences. As long we are still breathing out carbon dioxide in exchange for breathing in oxygen, and so long as we remain conscious of our environment, life will continue to happen to us. Some of the happenings will please us while some will displease us. Whichever we are currently experiencing, let's know that no situation persists forever. If we are able to persevere for a while, we will keep forging ahead.

Welcome to a new edition of our weekly digest, even though this week's release is coming a bit later than usual (apologies).

Who are we?

STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best of stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain is highlighted on weekly basis.

Below are the posts that made our digest for this week:

  1. @oluwatobiloba: Moments when swollen feet becomes a problem (Let's talk about Edema)

Health, as they always say, is wealth. So, it is quite deserving that this week's digest is opened by a health post. Perhaps some of us have experienced swollen feet at some point in our lives or have seen people that did. It may appear normal because ours just went away naturally because it was initially due to a sedentary lifestyle or sitting for a long journey. However, this is not so in all cases. When does swollen feet becomes abnormal? Read the post to learn more.

2.@henryce: The phenomenon behind Chimerism - Do you know that DNA test can lie while being true ?

The issue of paternity fraud has become a topical issue all over the social media nowadays and information are emerging to educate people on why all cases of unmatched DNA are not paternity frauds. Chimerism, as it is called, could be held responsible in a few cases. What is it and how does it happen? This interesting post explains in details and represents a good read for any layman.

3.@wolfofnostreet: Endometriosis Awareness: Painful Periods Are Abnormal

Here is a post from a woman, and befittingly, talks about women's health. Menstrual pains can be considered normal but some pains just emerge even beyond the normal mentruation in women, a condition that could be due to some cells growing out of their usual abode. Endometriosis is quite common than most of us think and getting educated about the topic is very important. Read the post in order to know more about the subject.

4.@sam9999: Protect it now, it costs more to fix it!!!

We live in an era where social media play a huge role in our existence. Much as there are several advantages to using the different social media platforms available, several disadvantages also abound. One of the reasons many people suffer from ental health issues is social media. Here is an interesting post talking about protecting one's mental health inspired by a real life story. A good read I'll 100% recommend.

5.@cyprianj: In-depth overview on the potential fatal complications of apheresis procedure

Rounding up this week's digest is a technical post that has been rather simplified by the author. It borders around the complications that could result from apheresis procedure if not properly conducted. But what under the heaven is apheresis? Well, that surely requires reading another post of the author which, luckily, has also been linked to the current post. If you are the type that loves to read medical posts, you will definitely love this one.

If you are a content creator on Hive and wondering how you can participate in the community, all you need to do would to:

  • Write original content or make a video
  • Make it as interesting as possible
  • Adopt beautiful layout/formatting
  • Personalize your writing (it is social blogging, remember)
  • Use copyright-free images
  • Include references (facts over fiction)
  • to increase the likelihood of being discovered, use the tag 'stemng'.

Nice selection. It turns out there is one of the posts that I missed. I will catch it up right now. By the way:

As long we are still breathing out carbon dioxide in exchange for breathing in oxygen, [...]

This does not work for those of us who are plants ;)
