STEMng Digest:

Authored by @gentleshaid

Good morning from the South of Sahara, Western Africa, Nigeria to be precise. It is a beautiful sunny Monday morning and a good time to feed our readers with some of the best stem content published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain in this past week. Whether you are at home, in the office, on a public bus, or any other place, relax as we bring you some intellectual food to consume.

Who are we?

STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best of stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain is highlighted on weekly basis.

Below are the posts that made our digest for this week:

  1. @sam9999: Your cognitive fitness, where is it headed?!!

Our first selection for this weeks talks about cognitive fitness. We can hardly get anything more appropriate for a Monday morning than a post telling us how to be fit cognitively. Many of us are obsessed with our physical bodies but gives little or no dime for our cognition. Just as the body can be trained to be physically fit, the mind can also be trained. But how do one train their mind to improve their cognition? A read of the post will tell you more.

2.@mengene: Citizen Science Particle Physics Project on Hive - @mengene's Progress Blog 01

image.png

A post about the ongoing citizen science project on the Hive blockchain initiated by @lemouth. The first task of the research requires the installation of some applications on linux OS and this post discussed extensively on how the first task was carried out and how the problems encountered were debugged. The tag represents a good repo of information for anyone that might want to carry out a similar project.

3.@hillaryisidore: Having an older father: the risk over child bearing

Here is a post that discusses the possible effects of man making children at older age. No one could have thought that producing children
at old age as man could have negative consequences on the children as a layman. However, research has logically shown that the likelihood of germline mutation increases with age and this may have severe implication on babies. Read the post to understand more.

4.@oluwatobiloba: Elephantiasis: A Mosquitoe Infecting Disease.

Elephantiasis is a disease characterized by swollen legs, giving the human legs an appearance of that of an elephant. The disease is caused by a microscopic worm known as Wuchereria bancrofti whose propagule is transmitted by mosquitos, just like the malaria disease. In the post, the author talks about her experience with disease and how to prevent its occurrence.

5.@mengene: Crystals: Nature’s Arithmetic Flowers

If you have ever had a chance to study crystals in macroscopic forms, you will know how beautiful they can be. Little wonder why this author calls them nature's arithmetic flowers. However, while some explanations can be given for the formation of flowers and why they appear beautiful, how crystals naturally form into their lovely shapes remains shrouded in secrecy to the scientific world. This post about crystals completes our selections for this week.

If you are a content creator on Hive and wondering how you can participate in the community, all you need to do would to:

  • Write original content or make a video
  • Make it as interesting as possible
  • Adopt beautiful layout/formatting
  • Personalize your writing (it is social blogging, remember)
  • Use copyright-free images
  • Include references (facts over fiction)
  • to increase the likelihood of being discovered, use the tag 'stemng'.

Support our activities

If you love our activities and or what we do as a community, you can throw us some support. Support stemng/stemsocial activities on the hive blockchain through one (or more) of the following
