A LITTLE ABOUT THE SITE/ UN POCO SOBRE EL SITIO๐จโ๐ซ๐จโ๐
To visit the site travel about 150 km from the border of Portugal to Spain, the city Italica was founded in 206 BC in the province of Andalusia! In the era of Roman rule it was a very important city and there are many evidences that show occupation of Roman families of a high social status! with many luxuries such as thermal showers! also the city of Italica includes a building that served as a temple!

The Romans were a very advanced civilization for the time, they were the first to create a sewage drainage system, basically the dirty water that generally came from the public baths passed through a tunnel that was built below the city and ended in a river or far from the city! what made the Romans a very clean culture, here in the city you can see how the city's sewage system is preserved!
In the 7th century there is still evidence that the city was occupied by the Romans, we can still see constructions of structures dating from the Christian era until 693, even when Spain was under the Muslim empire, the city is mentioned in some writings! So we can see a great cultural exchange that Italica experienced for many generations!
THE FIRST CITY FOUNDED/ LA PRIMERA CIUDAD FUNDADA๐จโ๐ซ๐จโ๐
That's how it is!! Italica was the first Roman city founded outside of Italy, after the war in Punica, Scipio left a troop to protect the conquered city which he called "italica" which comes from the name "Italy" the city was the home of Trajan and Hadrian who later became emperors of Rome! Only in 45 BC was it consecrated as a "municipium civium Romanorum" and became a military headquarters to a site that would house some Roman families!
In the 1st and 2nd century the city of Italica reached its highest level: (economic, social and cultural) of course in the reigns of Trajan and Hadrian. At the time the city was known as a Hispanic settlement. Many Roman families including the rulers could speak up to 3 different languages and it was normal since they had private education unlike the normal population!
Italica is a city that has served to decipher many Roman customs and habits, for example here we can see well-preserved public latrines, basically the Romans had a public bathroom that was shared within the public bathroom, they did business, men could socialize, water I went to the sewers of the city, the Romans also had bath sponges available that they used when they defecated and, incredibly, it is said that they shared the sponges!

This is Patio Rodio's house, here there is a set of cubicles that were shared between families, basically this area was used for fun and socializing, in the divisions you can see pools and hot springs! this gave us an idea of how luxurious Roman families lived!
๐๐ฉ๐งญA BEAUTIFUL YARD/ UN LINDO PATIO๐จโ๐ซ๐จโ๐
This area was a little restored and decorated according to the city plan for us to have an idea of what the main courtyard of the city was like, we can see many marble pillars that supported beautiful brick structures! This is how one of the main Roman building materials was bricks! cave highlight were built in the same city! They also highlight the decoration of animals such as birds that were created with ceramics piece by piece manually!
This was the main furnace in Italica, this area was called a bakery and as its name indicates here, food was prepared based on wheat and other seeds, it was also a place to produce construction material such as nails, bricks!
This area is spectacular and without a doubt it shows us a little about the organization, culture and Roman belief, here very well preserved we see the main gods of the Romans! and that each one was also desigando as a day of the week! here the calendar was basically reflected! for example we see the sun, the moon and Mars as days of the week corresponding to Sunday, Monday and Tuesday! the sun was also the star of supremacy!
And we arrived at my favorite part is the great amphitheater, it was the most important structure in italica and of course many cultural activities were held here such as chariot racing, small boat sailing! theaters! AND THE BLOODY COMBATS OF GLADIATORS!
Not everything is as we think! or as they tell us in the movies! a gladiator before going to the arena made a contract which he decided if he was freed or how much money he was going to receive for combat! everything was arranged and organized! NEVER did a gladiator go to the arena to fight thinking that he would die! the thumb pointing up was victory and the finger pointing down indicated the winning gladiator to keep his sword DID NOT MEAN DEATH !!! it was a very lucrative sport and gladiator owners could not afford to lose their best fighters!
The amphitheater could hold more than 20,000 spectators who were classified according to their social status! not all sat together! the amphitheater had 2 entrances, one called "triumphalis" and it was where the victorious gladiator came out and another called "Libitinaria" and here the wounded or dead gladiators came out! before a gladiator go to combat PRAYED TO NEMESIS to get out of combat alive! generally gladiators fought against other gladiators or animals!

How interesting! I've always wanted to visit an archaeological site, this region must be very rich in memories, here in Brazil, at least in the smaller cities to the south, we don't have a history like the regions you visited, but we still have beautiful stories from the past. It's funny to think that from the whole place only the bases of the constructions are left, I wonder if this is due to looting or the degradation of the weather itself. Thanks for the post! I'll be following you to follow more content!
