We have been at war to save our lives long before there was a global scale viral pandemic, trying to make our world safer and less toxic has been decades long battle. I read an article by James Quincy "Why a World Without Waste is Possible" on Medium, i was left with a bit guilty as to the several ways i have contributed to the pollution of our World subconsciously. Feeling remorse, i asked my Hair stylist that same evening of reading that article; "Where and how do you dispose my hair and that of a hundreds customers that use this saloon". His response was blunt and not that satisfactory to me as I hoped, I begin to wonder where those wastes, bags of refuses being carted away by refuse trucks goes to for disposal.

James stated and i quote;

According to United Nation Environment Programme, global materials use is expected to reach almost 90 Billion Tons in 2017; three times more than the amount used in 1970. We're using(and wasting) our natural resources at a rapidly increasing rate and acting like we'll never run out of it!- James Quincey, President and CEO; The Coca-Cola Company

The unacceptable fact is that we are actually running out of Natural Resources at an alarming rate, at least till the ones in recycled processes that is, the bio-matters that have been decomposing for centuries, reaches it's completion phase, and chances are the we could be all gone and the next generation would benefit from it.

In under 5 minutes, over 40,000 plastic wastes is being dumped in the Oceans and water ways! My hairstylist said something close, he said packed the cut off hairs and dump them in popular canal that had turned waste land.

The resultant effect of poor waste disposal is the killing of Natural habitats, wildlife, birds, insects(that aids pollination), Marine lives etc. Human activities like deforestation with vast vegetation dead is a contributing crime and make no mistake, once the wildlife, trees and forests is affected the more broader impact would be on Human!

A world without waste seems like a fantasy, it is not a child's play. To achieve this, it involves the entire human race and not just the Government and private industries. Both Adults, youths and kids all have to do whatever necessary irrespective of how little or huge to tackle this waste deposal crisis.

One of the top contributing factors is the packaging of food and consumables, alongside individual's lack of proper waste management skills. The actual fault is the materials many packaging materials is made from, if recyclable materials and biodegradable ones were adopted globally, this would be one less of a problem of civilization. These packages could have contributed to a more healthy living; food cans and vegetables containers made from Eco friendly raw materials could have prevented food wastage and prevented diseases to spread just like plastics and cans.

Same thing applies to water and beverages bottles and containers which had helped many Regions in distress despite the dangers of pollution it poised. But it could have been a World without waste pollution problem if we have considered global warming and climate change from the beginning.

To make our planet less waste polluted, The Coca-Cola company announced a bold and ambitious goal:

To help collect and recycle a bottle or can for every one it sells by 2030. Regardless of where it comes from, The company wants every package to have more than one life- Coca-Cola Vision for a World without Waste.

Recycling is the main tool, orientating communities of the World on where to recycle, what to recycle and how to recycle is the main task which The Coca-Cola Company called the "Circular Economy" where materials are used and reuse more than once instead of a once in a lifetime usage as kicked off back in 2018 in the city I reside in.

I emulated The Coca-Cola Company idea by tipping street kids to collect every plastic and glass bottles in my hood, in my apartment and the waste bin, to bag them all and send to the Coca-Cola company nearest to me in Ikeja Lagos State Nigeria, West Africa!

It's been a while, buddy. Thanks for sharing this insightful reminder.
Recycling waste not only plays a big part in keeping the world germ-free, but it also protects the lives of animals that are endangered by their presence, especially non-biodegradable ones like plastic. The usual culprit.

So far, only 9% of all plastic is recycled.
I hope we do better.
