Nausea, an indication to a serious health condition.

As a young girl in high school, I started having some type of nauseous feeling, I thought it was because I didn't like the food we were been served in the boarding house, after every meal I had to avoid taking water in order to avoid throwing up, I had to eat less because I was scared of the way my body would react and I was tired of throwing up after every meal. After some time, I noticed that, if I had sweets immediately after my meal, it will reduce the nauseous feeling, having an extremely peppery food also did some type of magic for me.

What is Nausea?

Nausea is a strong feeling of discomfort often associated with revulsion for food, as expected, vomiting follows (not on all occasions, though). Nausea is a series of disorders that could either be mild or serious.(1).

There are various conditions that could cause nausea, these conditions includes; stress, infections, anxiety, and motion sickness amongst other things. It is more difficult to control and provide solutions to chronic nausea than it is for non-chronic ones and this is because, in the case of chronic nausea, the central pathways are really close to the chronic neuropathic pain.

The stated stimuli that give rise to the act of nausea and vomiting, originates from the visceral, the vestibular, and the chemoreceptor trigger zone. These trigger zone inputs are mediated by serotonin or dopamine, histamine or acetylcholine, and serotonin or dopamine respectively.2

Nausea can be triggered by some basic lifestyle-triggered factors;
Stress: With stress, the body gets to a point of not being able to cope with some type of events and demands, if nothing is done to manage the condition, it could become a very big deal. When the body has been subjected to some level of intense stress, nausea is expected.

Food poisoning: When there is an ingestion of food or drink that contains toxin, bacterium, and virus, like Salmonella and Escerichia coli Most food poisoning infection clears up on their own naturally after some time, but the consumption of enough fluids and electrolytes is extremely important for the prevention of dehydration especially when it comes to young children.

Motion sickness: Constantly moving basically from one vehicle to another, could create a nauseous feeling.

Pregnancy: Most early signs of pregnancy are associated with the constant feeling of early morning nausea.

Phobia: The experience of extreme fear that makes an individual experience extreme fear about either a place, situation, an object, or even sometimes a living situation, the reaction of phobia could lead to the feeling of nausea.

Migraine: Migraine is a type of medical condition characterized by severe headache alongside other symptoms. Migraine comes with a nauseous feeling also.

There are other complicated cases that could cause a nauseous feeling. Some infections can cause nauseous feelings as well;

Covid-19: A viral infection like covid-19 can come with certain serious symptoms like; chills, cough, headache fatigue, runny or blocked nose, body aches, and core throat, but not also excluding vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea.

Digestive disorders seriously cause or inflate the feeling of nausea, let's check out some disorders;

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): Creates stomach cramping, it comes alongside constipation and diarrhea.

Gastritis: Acid or bacterium known as H.pylori most likely create stomach inflammation which could lead to stomach ulcers.

Gastroparesis: This condition empties the stomach at slower money than it should. This condition is often caused by some type of medication and it is common amongst people with diabetes.

Celiac disease: This is an autoimmune condition that creates symptoms in response to gluten. 3

Although for these digestive disorders, there may be other experienced symptoms like; abdominal bleaching or fullness, gas bleaching, abdominal cramping and pain, and reaction to some type of food. 4

Relieve to a nauseous feeling

Nausea can actually be managed and relieved especially if it is an ordinary one caused by a known habit.

  • Ginger: According to research, taking about 250mg of powdered ginger root before meal time and after bedtime will help reduce the feeling of nausea, especially for pregnant women.

  • Peppermint: Research has shown that inhaling peppermint will help control this type of postoperative nausea.

  • The intake of Vitamin B6 may also help control nausea.

  • Get fresh air as much as possible.

  • Avoid spicy, strong-smelling, or greasy food as much as possible.

  • Eat food that has more ginger, ginger tea could also help a lot.

  • Stay hydrated by sipping cold drinks, water, or juice.

  • Eat small frequent meals (do not eat too much, at a time).

If you can figure out the cause of nausea, then just avoid it as much as you can, an example is a stress.

When to See a Doctor and Identifying Worsen Case

Unlike the regular feeling of Nausea, some cases could require the help of a medical practitioner (a Doctor, or psychologist). This cases would be If the feeling of nausea is followed by a head injury, resulting from an accident, if there is a sudden and severe headache before the nausea feeling, In Neurological cases where there is a stiff neck, headache, and vomiting such as in the case of Meningitis, If there is a sudden loss of weight .

In very rare cases, nausea is an early sign of heart attack and it is more common in females. When there is a feeling of lightheadedness, trouble breathing, pain, pressure, and squeezing in the center of the chest, a medical expert should be visited immediately. 5

Conclusion.

I still do not know the reason for my own nauseating condition, but it is indeed getting worse by the day, this only means one thing, I need to see a medical expert as soon as I can. Hopefully, it does not end up being a very serious health condition and it can be managed as well.

I had to avoid taking water in order to avoid throwing up

I always have this nausea whenever I finish eating. I am used to taking Sweet (lollipop or TomTom). Not only that, but I haven't really been able to place my hand on the real cause of this, sometimes, I feel it is hereditary because my mum used to take a lot of sweet and sugar after eating but didn't say why she always did so but when I reached puberty, I started feeling the same way.

I don't have anyone in my family with a similar symptom, but I believe it could be hereditary as well like you said, you should visit the hospital dear, just to be sure it is caused by a more serious infection, thanks for your time and have a great day.
