GENESIS OF A FAMOUS EQUATION!!! :- Einstein’s Theory Of Special Relativity!

During the eve of World War II, Albert Einstein wrote a particularly interesting letter to the then U.S President; Franklin Roosevelt. He had just discovered that the element Uranium had the prospects of being turned into a new and important source of energy. He however also cautioned the President and asked him to be watchful and called for necessary actions to be taken since extremely powerful bombs could possibly be constructed.

His letter was simply an application for Einstein’s famous equation E=mc2. He feared that the Nazi’s could use this equation to build an Atomic Bomb! A chain of events followed right after the letter was delivered to Roosevelt, ultimately leading to the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki!! Einstein later described writing the letter as one of the mistakes he made in life! This Equation changed history and Einstein forever!

E=mc2 is an equation that sums up one of the most powerful truths about the universe. This equation combines two ideas that no one except Einstein could have ever dreamed of connecting.
First, we have The Idea of Mass and then there is the idea of Energy as the second. Einstein did a splendid job connecting these two together. A mere look at both subjects i.e. Mass and Energy respectively, it is not very obvious that they are in anyway similar. I’d describe Energy as something that moving objects possess and Mass(essentially known as weight) is what every object we can think of possesses. With this we can see the genius in Einstein for making something powerful out of them.

Albert Einstein’s great insight was that Energy and Mass are ACTUALLY NOT DIFFERENT but in fact the same thing!. These terms are likened to the two sides of a coin. According to him, Mass in its own sense is just Energy waiting to be liberated. As far as Einstein was concerned, Mass can actually be transformed into Energy and vice-versa!

The equation did not just stop at this junction; it went even further to give an exact value to the amount of energy contained within any given mass. When the speed of light is measured in m/s we get 89 8757………… as the amount of energy released for one unit of Mass. This value in its millions is absolutely huge! This simply means we get an enormously large amount of energy for an extremely tiny amount of Mass! To make it easier to understand just how huge the energy gotten is; You can picture a scenario where there is enough energy in a cup of water to power a city like Lagos, Nigeria for a week!

The equation has found vast applications after it was published in 1905. One worthy of note is when the Equation was used to solve one of the great mysteries of life on earth. For centuries before the Equation, we wondered: WHAT ACTUALLY POWERS THE SUN?
