The idea of mining important raw materials in space is somewhat controversial. Many scientists want such practices to be banned in the whole Solar system. But that doesn’t stop Earth’s superpower from searching for ways on how to get it done.

In this case, we will talk about a robot known as NEO-1. But this robot will not be mining. It’s purpose is to demonstrate and verify that it will be capable of doing several different things such as orbital maneuvers, simulating the catching of small objects or the identification of small objects.

Interestingly, next year an optical telescope known as Yuanwang-1 also nicknamed “Little Hubble” should be released into orbit which will search for potential targets for future mining.

I should also note that China is not the only country that wants to mine raw materials from objects in space. For example, Donald Trump recently signed an executive order that supports mining on both the Moon and on asteroids.

So, maybe, the age of space mining is finally upon us.
