WOOD WORKING MACHINES

In my last article, I spoke extensively on wood processing, starting from wood felling up to wood defects. But the processed wood is not useful untill it is converted into various wood products such as wardrobes,furnitures,chairs and tables etc.
The products or articles of wood

Wood been a tough materials cannot be work upon by mere flesh,it requires the use of some tools and machines to performed several operations in wood work . Operation in woodwork are those tasks performed on wood before wood articles can be produced. Examples of such operations performed are wood measurement, cutting of wood,wood planning, chiselling,nail driving etc. Each of these operations requires specific tools or machines designed to carry it out.

Wood working hand tools

Wood work hand tools, as the name suggest, are those hand tools used in furnitures and carpentary workshops. These wood work hand tools can be categorized based on their usage. The various categories are:

• measuring tools which are tools used to measure wood before cutting.Under this we have calipers and tape rules.

• Cutting tools are tools used to cut wood into different sizes. Here, we have saws, such as panel saw,rip saw,fret saw etc. Although what saw does is for cutting all sizes of wood, the area of applications of different saws differs.

• Driving tools are tools used to drive in nails and screw driver. Examples are hammers and screw drivers.

• Boring tools are tools used in wood work to make holes, examples are drills,bits and ratchet.

• Lastly, there are planning tools which are used in wood planning or smoothning. Examples are smooth and Jack planes. While Jack planes are used in planning rough wood surface, smooth planes are used on fairly smooth surfaces.

But now things have changed.The world now is technology driven as such there are inventions of various machines designed to performed various wood operations mentioned above. The essence of all these machines is to make wood work operations faster and more easier because most of these hand tools used requires a lot human energy before tasks can be accomplished.

Imagined cutting with saw,so stressful not to talk of planning which happened to be the most laborious operation in wood work. Not only that if you are to produced these wood products in large quantities it will very difficult to depends on using tools because of time. With this and other factors are reason why the use of machines are important.

Wood working machines are machines that are intended to process woods. These machines are powered by electric motors and are used extensively in wood working.

The various modern machines used in woodworking industries are:

• Circular sawing machines are machine designed to replaced the use of saws. The machine make use of electric motor that means, it works with electricity to power it,even though it requires little human effort to feed the machine but energy expended is small compared when make use of saws to pieces the wood.

• The second one is belt sander. Belt sander is used for wood smoothning or planning. Like I said earlier planning operation is most laborious and tedious operation in wood working simply because it involves chipping out the rough layers or texture from wood to produce attractive and well neat job. It also powered by electricity and it planned better and faster that planes.

• Sharper and planner is another wood working machines. The machine is used to generate the flat surface and also a planning work. It also make used of electric motor.

• Drill press is another machine used to make holes on wood work. The machine make used of drill bit to performed this function. It was designed to replaced hand drill which normally operated manually by the user.

• Nail gun machine is another potable wood working machine designed to fixed nail into wood. It is pneumatic because it makes used of air pressure to function optimally. It reduces most of energy expended when making used of hammers to drive in nails.

• Lastly, Pedestrian grinder is a machine designed to sharpen the cutting blade of most of these wood working machines for them to function optimally.

Finally, maintenance of these tools and machines is very important to ensure they function very well. Wood working machines can be maintained by constantly resharpened the cutting blade and also coolant and lubricant must be applied regularly.
