I never stopped asking myself questions about the recent increase at the rate which people suffers from urinary tract infection.

This infection is beginning to cause more harm than expected. The worst part of it is that, most people who have this disease may not be able to find out on time because of the asymptomatic nature of it.

If you have never been in a hospital before or you have never witnessed some of the things done in a laboratory, you may not be able to understand what am saying.

A woman who happens to be at the age of 38 came to hospital with a complain of frequent itchiness and abnormal discharge.

After all said and done she was referred to laboratory where she was asked to get samples for culture.

To cut the story short, there are a lot of heavy growth of staphylococcus aureus which happens to be the cause of the itching and she never took it serious.

This might actually be happening to any of us.

What is urinary tract infection

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of the urinary system. The urinary system includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Most infections involve the lower urinary tract — the bladder and the urethra

This infection can be gotten either from sex, environment and many other aspect.
Both men and women has a higher chances of getting this disease but it seems more higher in women than men.

I have come to realize that men who develops this infection seems to be asymptomatic unlike women who often have itches in their private part.

This infection usually presents symptoms like frequent urge to urinate even when your bladder is empty, a burning feeling during urination, cloudy urine with strong irritating smell.

Pathogenesis of urinary tract infection

The bacteria causing this infection are mainly gotten through urethra into the vagina. Sometimes we can also get this infection through blood and lymph vessels.

When bacteria like E coli enters the body, it forms a biofilm which makes it possible to resist body's immune system.

E coli is mostly the common cause of urinary tract infection followed by Klebsiella, Proteus spp and staphylococcus aureus.

All this bacteria have the capacity of bringing down your body immune and if not treated appropriately may be extended to the kidney to cause more disease.

Types of urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infection can be grouped into three different types depending on the area or angle that are being affected.
This includes the kidney, bladder and the urethra.

The kidney-

Bacteria infection happens to occur anywhere at any point. Infection found in the kidney can be dangerous if not treated properly.

Atimes, people who have this infection usually don't know that they are infected until it becomes severe by having a series of symptoms like fever, back or side pain, shaking and chills.

At this point the kidney must have been affected so badly that it might likely result to big issue.

The bladder-

Infection can as well affects the bladder causing a lot of symptoms like painful urination, blood in the urine and lower belly discomfort.

The urethra-

This is actually a site where the bacteria gains it entrance before extending to the other parts. There is usually burning sensation and discharge that comes whenever the person contacts this disease.

Infection found at this level on time can easily be treated before escalating or extending to other areas.

Laboratory diagnosis/Treatment

To find out if someone really have a bacteria infection, one must do a laboratory culture test in other to determine if the person has it or not

This test is done using urine, urethra swab or high vaginal swab of the individual.
This test is firstly being cultured for 24 hours after which sensitivity test is done.
Any growth can be examined to identify the particular organism that are involved.

After that, sensitivity test is then done to know the actual drug suitable for the infection.

Treatment

Infection is mainly treated using antibiotics. But to determine the right antibiotics suitable for it one must do sensitivity test.

With the help of this test, you can now be able to find out the right drug for the infection.

Conclusion

Let us understand that infection can be very deadly if left untreated. Not only that, this disease can also extend to some other areas of the body which might be more dangerous than we think.

The moment we understand that we must go to hospital once in a while the better for our health.
