Today life is beginning to take another new dimension. People are no longer interested in burning out their body fat through exercise, most women in our country are beginning to adopt another new way by which their body fat increment can be reduced drastically.

If I am not mistaken, here in Nigeria most celebrity have welcomed this new development of bringing down their body size through the help of liposuction.

Liposuction have actually come to stay. It is now a new way we can use in determining the choice of body shape and the new look out you may choose to have.

Well, before I digress more on this topic I will like to start by telling us what liposuction really is, and what you need to know about it.

Liposuction

Liposuction, sometimes referred to as "lipo" by patients, slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion.

Looking at the above definition, liposuction is all about removing excessive fat from the body, and to maintain the normal body stature.

It is a gradual process that demands a lot of concentration to avoid some unnecessary mistakes. Firstly before undergoing liposuction, the skin must be tumesced. This is done by injecting wetting solution under the skin. The solution contains normal saline, epinephrine and lidocaine.

The work of the epinephrine is to shrink the blood vessels and prevents bleeding that might occur as a result of the surgery.
The lidocaine which is also known as the local anesthetic help to prevent pains that might occur during or after the surgery.

Liposuction are divided into three types which includes radio frequency assisted liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction and tumescent liposuction.

radio frequency assisted liposuction

This is done under local anesthesia. The surgeon makes an incision in the area that needed treatment. After then the radio frequency electrode is inserted. The radio frequency is also guided appropriately to ensure that the treated area doesn't get too hot. Also the liquified fat from the body is being suctioned by the cannula. The radio frequency waves also stimulate the production of collagen therefore making the treated area looks firmer.

ultrasonic liposuction

This is a type of liposuction used mainly on a difficult area such as the knee, neck, chin, feet and ankles. This method uses ultrasonic wave to liquefy fat in the the patient body. This liquified fat are now later sucked out by the use of cannula and a medical vacuum.

Ultrasonic liposuction are of two types the internal ultrasonic and external ultrasonic liposuction.
Internal liposuction involves the Insertion of a probe into the patient body. The probe emits sonic vibration that breaks down the fat that seems difficult.
In the external liposuction, it involves the use of paddle like tools to eliminate or neutralize fats in the body. This method can be dangerous as it can disrupt the patient nervous system in the targeted area.

tumescent liposuction

This involves the injection of solution that hydrates the fat. Hydration of the fat makes it easier for the fat to be extracted.
The injected solution constrict the capillaries making it difficult for the patient to bleed during this process.

the pros and cons of liposuction
pros

Liposuction has a lot of benefits. It has actually helped in the cure of so many diseases like lymphedema and Gynecomastia.
Lymphedema: this is a long term condition where excess fluid are being built up in the tissue therefore causing swelling up of the affected area. Liposuction helps to reduce the swelling up and pains caused by the excessive fluid.
Also liposuction can be of help to some individual who has reduced up to 40 percent of their BMI by removing excessive skin from the persons body.

cons

To every major operation there is always a risk of infection and bleeding.
People who undergoes liposuction has a lower tendency of getting infection. Also Liposuction can lead to pulmonary embolism due to some breakdown of fat that might possibly enter into the vein and prevents an efficient flow of blood.

Aside this, fluid injection and removal from the body alters the body fluid level which might probably result to kidney or heart related diseases.

conclusion

To every thing that has advantage there is always a disadvantage. Looking at the disadvantages that comes with liposuction, it is always advisable to meet a well trained personel in other to minimize unnecessary risk that might result due to liposuction abnormality.
