Kidney transplantation and its possible complications
pixabayOvertime I keep pondering on that, but still can't give myself a good meaningful reason why it is so. Though I know there are a lot of things we consume on daily bases which is capable of causing kidney failure, but this increase rate of failure is becoming something else.
Today I will be discussing on kidney transplantation and all you need to know.
Kidney transplantation is the surgical procedure which demands replacing a failed kidney with a living or deceased person kidney. This surgery is mainly done by doctors who is well trained in this area of specialty.
A kidney is said to have failed when the glomerular filtration rate of that kidney is below 15, this is also called end stage disease. At this level the kidney can no longer function on its own rather it needs a machine capable of helping in removing waste product from the body.
This machine is termed dialysis machine.
It is designed to filter out the waste product from the body by transporting out the blood from the body into the machine where filtration is being done. After that the blood is send back to the body.
Kidney transplantation is done when the persons kidney has failed and can no longer function properly. At this stage dialysis comes in immediately to help sustain the persons life while waiting patiently for a kidney donor.
Sometimes getting a donor might seems to be difficult due to kidney mismatch to avoid the body from imposing attack to the new kidney.
Kidney to be transplanted could be made available either from a living donor who is willing to give out his or her kidney or from a deceased individual whose kidney matches with the recipients own.
A kidney transplant is done to free you from long term dependency on dialysis and the strict schedule that goes with it.
Before kidney transplantation, a lot of examination are done to find out if your body is likely to reject the kidney may be as a result of some setting ailment like cancer, tuberculosis, bone infection, hepatitis and liver disease.
This above listed disease can lead to the body in rejecting the newly transplanted kidney and therefore causing more harm.
In the process of kidney transplantation, blood group type and HLA are being checked to know if the donors blood type correspond with the recipients own.
If your HLA type correspond with the recipients own, it simply means the kidney can be transplanted with little or no rejection. But in a case of HLa mismatch there is every possibility that the recipient immune system will pose an immune response on the transplanted kidney causing kidney rejection.

Kidney transplant is done with the help of anaesthesia. This medication helps to induce sleep during the process of this surgery and also blocks the pain receptor in the surgery area. This medication is given through the veins in your hand or arm.
After that, an incision is made in your abdomen, the failed kidney is then removed and replaced with the new one.
The arteries and veins of the new kidney is now being connected with the recipient arteries and veins. This connection helps to encourage the flow of blood to the new kidney.
Also, the new kidney ureter is being connected to the recipient ureter. This is to also encourage the flow of urine from the kidney down to the bladder before passing through the urethra.
Risk associated with kidney Transplant
As kidney transplant saves life, it also has a lot of risk associated with it. These includes:
¶an allergic reaction to general anesthesia
¶bleeding
¶blood clots
¶a leakage from the ureter
¶a blockage of the ureter
¶an infection
¶rejection of the donated kidney
¶failure of the donated kidney
¶a heart attack
¶a stroke
Conclusion
Today most people are suffering from one kidney disease to the other, every single day the number keeps increasing.
To me, the major reason why we do come down with this disease should be directly associated with what we consume on regular bases. Take for instance excessive protein consumption and many of them.
It is high time we understand the effect associated with kidney failure and try cutting down on some of the things we consume in other to bring down the increase rate of kidney failure.
