Today in our generation, most individual suffers from one health condition to the other. I have come to realize that some of this ailment is not govern only by what we eat on daily bases, sometimes genetic factors could be one of the contributing factor.

I can remember vividly a family which happens to be a close relation of mine. In this family virtually everybody is suffering from diabetes mellitus. I have asked myself questions what exactly could be the reason behind it but I have come to realize that not every disease is related to our daily consumption of things.

When I was actually thinking about this family I was pushed to ask myself why do people suffer from diabetes, though there is this popular saying that too much or excessive consumption of sugary substance could lead to diabetes.

For me I know I am a sugar addict, I consume more than 10 cubes of sugar containing substance every single day.
So I have to sit down and make out time to read more about diabetes and sugar consumption and was able to come up with something, which I would like to share with you guys.

Firstly, let us begin by explaining what diabetes is all about and it's classification.

Diabetes mellitus

This is a disease condition whereby your body cannot be able to utilize glucose when taken, therefore resulting to excessive increase in blood sugar level.

Diabetes in a lay man understanding can be called body lack of sugar(glucose). This is to say that the body cells cannot utilize the amount of sugar in the blood stream due to a deficiency of insulin or its malfunction.

Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas with the help of a cell called islet of langerhans. The work of this insulin is nothing but to regulate the amount of sugar in our body.

Once there is malfunction of this insulin, the body cannot be able to take up glucose from the blood into the muscle cells. Due to this, there is now an excessive sugar in the blood.

Insulin malfunction can be resulted by a lot of things which includes damage of the islet of the langerhans cells and alteration of the pancreas functionality.

diabetes can be grouped into two different types which are type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type one diabetes is also known as juvenile onset which happens at birth. It is also termed genetic or hereditary diabetes.

The type two which is also called adult diabetes happens due to malfunction or deficiency of the insulin which could be as a result of damage or a disease condition of the pancreas.

Our main discussion today will be more on type 2 diabetes, knowing if there is an effect of excessive sugar consumption on diabetes or not.

Ever since I was born and get to know what diabetes is all about. I have always have this phobia whenever I hear about diabetes reason being that I consume a lot of sugar on daily bases which could indirectly amount to me coming down with diabetes.

Well sugar consumption could add to someone having diabetes but is referred to as one out of many things that is a contributor.

The sugar we take everyday contains one molecule of sucrose which comprises of glucose and fructose.

The glucose is utilized directly by the insulin where it can be stored in the muscles cells for later usage. But for the fructose, it is being taken to the liver for metabolism where it can be converted to glucose or fat.

Since fructose can be converted into fat. High intake of fructose increases the level of triglycerides in the body therefore increasing the persons body weight.

This can result to a risk of having heart disease or fatty liver. This could equally increase your chances of developing diabetes mellitus.

A large number of studies have found that people who regularly drink sugar-sweetened beverages have a roughly 25% greater risk of type 2 diabetes. In fact, drinking just one sugar-sweetened beverage per day increases your risk by 13%, independent of any weight gain it may cause

This is to say that consuming sugary substances everyday could result to someone coming down with diabetes mellitus.

Conclusion

Consumption of sugar substance on daily bases is not a bad idea, but excessive intake of it is very detrimental to our health.

Though we may not realize this effect until the insulin starts getting weak due to a lot of task imposed on it.
For that reason, let us regulate the amount of sugar we take everyday in other to help us not to come down with this disease called diabetes mellitus.
