Adventure auction and buying a HPLC (start-up small lab)

avatar

I love anaylitcal chemistry.
Always wanted to have my own HPLC.

So i watched auctions like a hawk, to buy one for cheap.

There was 1 type of system dominating the second hand market, agilent 1100 systems.
So i did my research turns put the systems are very robust and reliable, thats why there are so much on the second hand market. Lets go for one!!

I also have some experience working with that system that might help.

you are outbid... you are outbid ... always on the last few minutes or seconds the value shoots-up way above my budget.

By chance i found an auction that was done, but the buyer didn't respond for a few systems. So i was able to haglle and got 2 HPLC for only 7000 euro!
So i thought.. there is 18% "handling fee", add 500 for storage handling another 200 for documentation and 200 more for administration. Even worse a 2000 euro transport cost!

The HPLC are in switserland, i'm in the Netherlands. They fit in the trunk of my car... shouldnt be a problem to transport it myself and reduce some cost shouldn't it?! Well transporting was a whole other adventure! (Too long of a story)

I have the HPLC and i'm really eager to try it out!!
I know i will face a lot more challengesand problems. But its the first steps, there is progress!

Anybody has a good idea to measure? I'll start with Capsaïcine concentration to estimate Scofield values (the things that make pepper spicy).
