It is globally acknowledged that education is the bedrock of development and thus, the future prospect of every nation depends on the type of education in that nation. There’s a strong link between poverty and education in terms of bridging the gap between the poor and the rich. Thus, both the MDGs and SDGs are critical of education. Equally, the sustainable development goals emphasizes that greater investment in quality education is key to alleviating poverty and ending population growth. This shows that every countries progress is hinged on its educational system.
More often than not, education in most African countries is not engineered towards STEM education but rather a system that produce students who cannot produce anything.

The core problem education in Africa clearly is lack of policy guidelines that would make African students competitive so as to compete within the scientific and technological world. It is very sad that Africans are willing to risk drowning in the Mediterranean Sea to seek greener pastures in Europe.

The education system in African countries are mass producing students who are not ready to challenge the status quo due to over concentration on grammar education instead of TVET/STEM education.
Africa has the youngest population in the world and is projected to become the most populous continent by 2050. This shows that not only would the problems in Africa be enormous, but also its technological and scientific demands would be huge as well. Suffice to say, the problems within the continent cannot be solved with its current education that produce graduates who are not competitive around the globe in STEM related fields.

All the scientific break through in modern history, non of them is in Africa. None of the electronic gadgets used around the world is invented in Africa yet, the continent remains the leading consumer of all technological inventios. This cannot be said to be a fault of nothing but the poor educational system that does not solve societal problems.

Today Africa prides itself with the birth of civilization and the robust education of Timbuktu and other ancient’s civilization yet we have not invented anything but greed corrupt leaders with bad populace. Education is totally lost in our schools, it’s now for white color jobs. It is time African leaders invest a proportional amount of their GDP to STEM education and Scientific research that would bring inventions to lessen the plights on the continent.
