Absolutely every single one of those astronauts knew the incredible ri sks and potential history they could be making.
That's all part of the job however their names will be forever in history. Not only those who came back safely but also those who didn't.
And I actually remember watching all of these launches and also the Challenger disaster.
Instead of wars we should be working on going to the Stars.
