Schrödinger's Cat - How can you be alive and dead at the same time?

(Edited)

Some time ago I remember that when I was studying I was very fond of physics and everything that content it in general, I think one of the factors was to have a professor quite capable to teach classes in such a way and make me feel so interested in the subject that little by little I was investigating about the topics of it that I liked in general.

I remember that there was one in particular that caught my attention to such a degree that I read a lot about how it worked, the argument, and what it proposed, besides being proposed by a physicist who was well known in the world of quantum mechanics for making great findings and posing great problems in large specific cases. After that time passed and it was not until a few months ago watching a series of trips around the time that it came back to my mind where it was proposed in a very curious way, that is why I come to talk about it to see how close it is from the point at which it is told to us, all this from my point of view, the theory that I will talk about will be the theory of "Schrödinger's cat".

The first thing is to explain what is quantum mechanics? It can not be explained in a simple way because it is a concept a little difficult to show with apples and pears but in short, we can say that quantum mechanics is the part of physics that is responsible for studying the small part of the composition of the world. By this, we mean what makes up every one of the things, such as particles, and how their joining or unjoining can completely change everything we perceive of the real world itself. The difficult thing about it is perhaps that its concept includes the most recondite since nanometers could be considered as a quantum part of physics, which is why perhaps at first glance it may seem difficult to understand for those who are not familiar with it.

Once we have explained what quantum mechanics is, we can talk about the experiment or finding of quantum mechanics. ca we can talk about the experiment or finding of Erwin Schrödinger, an Austrian physicist who posed one of the great paradoxes of this topic. In it, he makes reference to what generally happens to us on many occasions which is the innate belief of 50|50, this is a result of his argument in which he states the following

Argument.

A cat is enclosed in an indestructible box, or at least they refer to how resistant it can be. In it, in addition to the cat, there is a hammer attached to a kind of particle counter mechanism capable of being activated depending on the number of particles that exist at a given time. If a single particle arrives to disintegrate or change its direction this will activate the mechanism and therefore if the hammer moves and breaks the volumetric flask with a poisonous substance this will cause it to be watered and the cat will die from the toxicity.

The paradox in question is that there are only two possible ways for this to happen, there is a 50% chance that the particle will disintegrate and therefore the cat will die, and there is also a 50% chance that the particle will not change its structure and therefore the cat will stay alive. However, we will never know this because the box is closed and the only way to find out is to open the box directly. This paradox is what I call occultism of possibilities since there is no direct way or mathematical formula to calculate without opening the box.

Therefore we can say that in the space and timeline the cat is both dead and alive at the same time. For those who watched Dark (the series to which I refer), this was a brilliant way to put it since being a series of time travels, they suggest that there is more than one cause in the world when we talk about both possibilities to occur. An example of these could be jumping into a hole in the ground of which we have no idea how deep it is, what is underneath it, or even if it is in a position to have a surface to hold anything securely, obviously all this with our eyes closed. There may be the possibility that the hole is not very deep and it is something minuscule and nothing happens, or it may also happen that it is quite deep and when we fall we will die directly. For this, we could say that we in the general lines of space and time are in two cases in which we are dead and alive at the same time.

Schrödinger's theory was something that has been proven in many experiments such as Thomas Young's double-slit and has been one of the greatest findings of physics or quantum mechanics. What surprises me the most is how randomness is something that influences physics. The truth is that physics, in general, is supposed to be something measured, or at least it tries to measure each magnitude as far as possible utilizing formulas that allow us to verify in magnitudes, but much of it changes when we refer to particles such as protons, electrons, atoms and everything in general that concerns quantum physics.

The truth is that this finding is one of the ones that has impressed me the most, without any doubt, everything about him and his mechanics, as well as his main one, which is through a paradox. Undoubtedly in my opinion Erwin Schrödinger is one of the great geniuses that humanity has had who has been the mind behind this and others like Schrödinger's equation and his intelligence and veracity of his findings have allowed us to advance and reach the level that today we are studying nanorobotics and physics for future and current development.

I am not a physicist or anything of the sort but simply an amateur of science in general. I do not intend with this article to do anything technical as I am talking entirely about what I understood from the theory. Rather I try to express my views in the simplest and most attainable way of how I managed to understand it at the time so that in this way those who read me can understand it without perceiving it as something complicated. If you have come this far thank you very much and I hope it has helped you to understand the subject a little more, see you in the next one.

Another way to be both alive and dead at the same time is to be married. 😂 (hah, sorry - couldn't resist)

Gabriel - Academic Physics teaches a lot of BS. Please realize that Erwin Schrodinger used this CAT analogy to describe the ridiculous outcome of the Born Rule of Quantum Mechanics. The Copenhagen/Gottingen interpretation of Erwin's own equation, i.e. the Born Rule, was just wrong. Schrodinger's equation is NOT Quantum Mechanics, but rather Schrodinger's Wave Mechanics. Academic Physicists just flat out lie about it. Here is a link to Erwin's paper where the Schrodinger's Cat idea was published. It is only 1 small paragraph that described the analogy of how silly the Probabilistic Interpretation (Born Rule) becomes when applying it to nature (and the now famous "wave function collapse"):

The 2nd paragraph on page 157 ... "One can even set up quite ridiculous cases"
