Hello, lovers of pets, welcome to my blog once again, I am beyond excited to bring another episode on the health of our pet to you today, I hope that you and your pet are doing well. There was a reported case today of a dog who has not been dewormed for several months, the dog owner decided to give him some deworming medications a few days ago and what she found in the dog's poop was really scary to her, she said there was a long thing in her dog's poop, at some point, she taught the dog possibly swallowed a piece of material hanging around but then again it had a tail, her dog was doing fine but this poop was really disturbing that she had to call in to make complaints. This is the reason why I have decided to speak about the need for regular deworming for our pets and what could be the outcome of the deworming process.

The good thing about deworming your pet is that, you do not need to contact a veteran doctor to get that done, you can easily carry out the entire process by yourself from the comfort of your home, all you need to do is to check through the several available treatment options and decide on which one you would prefer. The most common treatment option used by so many people is tablets and there are several tablets you can choose from as well. While using a tablet, you may want to place it in between a special treat, so your pet would not have the option of spitting it out regardless of the taste.

It is also advisable that the deworming procedure is carried out at home where your pet is comfortable, relaxed, and calm, this way you will monitor your pet after the treatment has been administered. If it happens that your dog vomits the tablet completely, you should allow them to relax for a while before proceeding to administer the drug again. Most worms affecting a pet infect its digestive system basically the colon, but there are certain species of heartworm that impacts the circulatory system including the heart. The entire process of deworming is the removal of digestive worms through the use of medications, which could either be in form of tablets to injections, ensure that you stick with the amount of dosage recommended by your veterinary doctor.

Deworming is highly necessary for your pet as worms can cause a lot of serious trouble for any type of pet most especially puppies, the symptoms of existing worms in your pet include; weight loss, stomach pain, nutrient deficiency, vomiting or diarrhea, a swollen abdomen, poor coat, and visible blood in your pet's poop.

There are four major types of worm that affects the digestive system of a puppy.

Roundworm: toxocara canis and toxascaris leonina are the two major types of roundworm-infecting dogs, T.canis happens to be the most popular, and it can transmit worm infection to humans. Puppies could get infected through their mother's milk or during pregnancy, the worm can also be gotten by the consumption of roundworm eggs.

Tapeworms: The possibility of picking up tapeworms for puppies is through infected disease. Tapeworms are usually long, flat creatures that have segmented bodies, tapeworms are so deadly that they could cause stunting growth in their host, and each of the segmented bodies can easily detach.

Hookworm: This type of worm is very small, so it may be impossible to view it with the naked eye, they consume so much blood whenever they are in the intestine and they could cause anemia.

Whipworm: This is also a different type of small worm, which is contacted by consuming infected poop or other infected substances.

Worms do not always cause serious health issues, but in some cases, the dog can make your pet feel less productive. Intestinal worms exist in the intestinal tract of your pet, these worms actively feed on the blood and nutrient of your pet. Symptoms of when worms in your pet are scooting, dull coat, weight loss, diarrhea, and exertion of low energy.

Younger puppies are at a greater risk of the problems that come with untreated worms, depending on the level of the untreated worms, it could lead to malnourishment, anemia, and intestinal blockage. The burden of heavy worms may even result in death.

If you give your pet a deworm medication;

  • Give them lots of fresh water which may make it possible for them to flush out every other existing while being hydrated.

  • Make sure they are relaxed and they are at a comfortable point.

Different reactions come from pets after they have been dewormed, some paralysis may actually kill the worms, and it becomes broken down into worms. After de-worming the pet, expect that your pet may pass out dead worms, do not be scared, the worms may even move a little bit, but do not fear. There is a standard recommendation that you need to deworm your pet for at least every three months, in some cases, your vet may prescribe monthly deworming basically if your dog is a hunter or a scavenger, or even live with children.

Do you know the importance of clearing up your dog's feaces instantly?

When your dog freshly passes faces, it is not usually a toxic hazard even if roundworm eggs are present in the faeces of an infected dog, the eggs would normally take around two weeks before it matures and grows into an infectious stage. This is why it is very important for pet owners to clear up their pet's feces properly immediately, puppies who are already infected by their mother would even experience more complications.
