I guess compatibility? It would probably bring in more variables when troubleshooting. It may also be prohibitive to some employees to obtain devices that meet recommended specs depending on the industry I suppose.

Great catch. Yes, from an IT management perspective, managing such a diverse environment would be a nightmare! However, I think there is a happy medium for companies and I think many have an "all or nothing" thought process. Example, would be just allowing for the use of just smartphones. Limited iOS to support, limited access through company apps and VPNs etc. Smartphones would not require much maintenance by the company as the employee would be more inclined to maintain their own phone, keep it updated and current etc.. I'll be talking to this later on in future posts.
