This is the last post I will be writing about depression, tomorrow I am going to summarise all that I have learned and make a post out of it and declare depression done.
This post is not so much of a response post, it is just for explanation's sake. STEMsocial is more about socialising and this topic has the word depression on it, it seems like the best "last topic" to cover. I didn't particularly have any other in mind but I had been putting this one back. Also, the topic is directly related to mental health, considering that it caused the highest suicide rates known to mankind.
In my last post, I tried to see if post-concert depression was real without trying to undermine other people's experiences. What I got to find out was that either it was undocumented in medical data or the medical community is yet to take note of it. I can't still remember if it was an experience I had after a concert, but it is worth circling back to when more information comes out.
Welcome to our blog, Medic Vibes, where er write about mental health topics. This month we were writing bout depression. I first broke down a post I was about depression in Nigeria and for the past 3 weeks, I have been reacting to Twitter posts. I feel the knowledge becoming smaller and smaller so I want to switch to another topic and hopefully I will be able to come back to it with a new mind for it.
Depression is characterised by the presence of a sad mood accompanied by a lack of desire for activities that once were pleasurable. There may be sleep changes, weight changes and appetite changes. The patient may live with a feeling of guilt and feel hopeless.
People who are depressed are at risk for suicide because of the suicidal ideations those who suffer from this condition can have. They may make statements about life and death that shows they have no concern about living.

The Great Depression
Otherwise known as the Economic Depression was a decade after the fall of the drop in stock market prices in 1929 United State of America. While the prices dropped in America, every country around the world was affected. The Goss Domestic Product fell by a per cent from 2008 to 2009 which is so small when compared to the 15% fall that took place on 1929 October 29th. The day was later called Black Tuesday.
During this period, there were long lines of people queuing up in search of food. A church was found giving food in the 1930s until it ran out of food. Men seek jobs that were paid with welfare food, clothes and the like.
Family life was disrupted, Weddings could not be done because no one could afford them, similarly divorces cases were halted. children had to take up responsibility quick.
There are theories of an increase in cases of domestic abuse as well as child abuse. There were increased consults with psychiatrists by those in the upper-income class.
Notably, suicide became more common during this period. from 17 per 100,000 to 21 per 100,000 during the great depression suicide rates were the highest it has ever been.
After the great depression the president at the time, Franklin D. Roosevelt, THe New Deal relief program. The program helped relieve people of the guilt they felt surrounding the crash.
Tips
During the great depression, in addition to The New deal by Franklin D. Roosevelt, the entertainment industry had to step up to keep people distracted during the healing process.
I feel that entertainment has a place in the treatment of depression, but research has shown that reducing TV watch has a better effect on treatment.
What is way better is social interaction. Speaking to people has a better effect than entertainment.
Hive stories

I had only been depressed once in my life. And I never want to tow that path again.
So I understand anyone who is going through this because I had been there once.
I hope that a lot of folks will be able to step out of this phase victoriously like I did.
And that they will have the courage to seek help if they can't do it on their own.
Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome.
Sorry about your experience with depression. I hope your prayers are realised. Depression takes the best from people.
