Eating bananas is a natural aid to reduce the effects of stress and anxiety.

— Fact (@Fact) September 13, 2022

In this post, I want to talk about something I initially talked about in one of my old posts from about a month ago. It is about anxiety and bananas the last post was about depression and bananas. When we wrote about it the last time we got to find out that there was little evidence that anxiety could treat depression. In, this post I want to do the same thing but I want to make it about anxiety. @fact might be on to something this time...though I doubt it. In the last post, we post about depression and bananas, we got to find out that the vitamin available for the synthesis of serotonin was not sufficient to make enough serotonin to treat depression. We also saw that the natural serotonin in bananas did cross the blood-brain barrier. But let's see if @fact is on to something.

Anxiety is a scalar, fear is a vector

This is the Medic Vibes blog, where we exchange knowledge with one another about subjects relating to mental health. I'm glad you're here and I hope your day is going well. The blog's host, @ebingo, is a doctor and an illustrator. We haven't yet switched to our main blog because we only have one writer and illustrator on staff at the moment. We are currently blogging for the STEMsocial community. Last month we talked about depression, and this month is all about anxiety. Anxiety was 50% common in a youth camp, according to a Nigerian study that we started last month with. After the study, we started looking at tweets, just like we did last month.

Everyone can experience anxiety, but women and younger people are more likely to experience it than the general population due to higher levels of worry and fear.

In a study we looked at, we discovered that 50% of the campers at a youth camp in Northwestern Nigeria had anxiety symptoms and that over 3% of people worldwide also experience anxiety. Around 1% of the Nigerian population experiences anxiety.

Everyone has experienced heart palpitations before significant exams, presentations, or performances at some point in their lives. But what if I told you that some people have that sensation every day? People with social anxiety disorder are preoccupied with what others will think of them. One of these individuals, like their boss or a coworker, maybe someone with whom they interact frequently. People will therefore employ avoidance tactics. In one of our earlier posts, we discussed how social anxiety in individuals can be present during phone calls.

In anxious people, physical, psychological, and reactionary symptoms are all present.

Physical symptoms include things like chest pain, stomach pain, weakness, rapid breathing, and a rapid heartbeat. These are frequently caused by the autonomic nervous system's sympathetic firing.

The psychological symptoms of anxiety can include nightmares, flashbacks, and insomnia.

Avoidance is one of the reactionary signs and symptoms that can go along with social anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. This can be of both people and places.

The diagnostic and statistical manual states that the cause of anxiety varies from subject to subject and lasts for more than six months. Keeping it under control can be difficult. Pain, exhaustion, jitteriness, and sleep issues, one of which is persistent, are common in children with anxiety.

Risk Factors
When it comes to who can have anxiety disorders, a combination of genetics and environment play a small role in the development of the condition.

Behaviors such as shyness, avoiding social situations or avoiding specific locations all increase an individual's risk of anxiety.

Being exposed to traumatic or extremely stressful events as a child increases the risk of anxiety development.

A person is also at risk if they have relatives who battle anxiety disorders.

Several medical conditions, such as thyroid issues and heart conditions like arrhythmias, increase a person's risk of developing anxiety disorders.

In general, women are more likely to experience anxiety than men. Some researchers believe this is because of hormonal changes that occur during the monthly menstrual cycle, while others think higher testosterone levels may have a calming effect. Some people believe that women seek therapy for anxiety less frequently than men.

It is essential to be vigilant for any changes as soon as they appear because depression and anxiety are related and because depression increases a person's risk of suicide.

So what this post I am seeing by healthier says:

Eating Two Bananas: the Natural Anxiety Reducer

As its title.

According to this post written by a student, banana has beta-blockers in them. What that means is that it can block the sympathetic actions of the body. If you recall reading the introduction of this post, we talked about how sympathetic firing is one of the causes of anxiety.

I had to go check and found out that beta-blockers are used in the treatment of anxiety. Healthline gave a list of some beta-blockers used for treating anxiety. Particularly propranolol.

  • What type of beta-blocker is found in bananas.
  • What I would like to find out is what amount of beta-blockers are found in bananas.

According to Medical News Today, Potassium is a natural beta blocker. If you know about bananas then you know about their potassium content.

Banana has about 358mg of potassium in one finger. Though no article I have scanned through gave information about its ability to treat anxiety many said that it can reduce anxiety. It was so significant that many even wrote that if you are on beta-blockers you should be careful with banana intake.

Tips

Eating 1 to 2 bananas a day was seen to be a moderate amount of bananas according to Healthline. As I already mentioned in the post, it is important to watch banana intake while on beta blockers like propranolol. I don't think you can use bananas as a substitute for any anti-anxiety medication but I will defiantly suggest it to patients.

Hive Stories

@phanthanhdie12 talks about a beautiful banana plantation by mom. I shoved seeing these pictures of beautiful grown food and fruits. Read about the post and see the nice pictures here

Questions

  • What did you learn about bananas?
  • What did you learn about anxiety?
  • What is the relationship between them?

Conclusion

Potassium is found in bananas and potassium has an antianxiety effect because of its beta-blocking ability. 1-2 bananas a day is sufficient for moderate consumption. While bananas can not treat anxiety, they could be added to the diet for anxiety.

I hope that you learned a lot from this post.

Bananas are indeed famous for their potassium, and it turns out that's what has the beta-blocker effect - you only mentioned this toward the end, so I didn't know that you were talking about potassium all along!

I was basically reading and informing as I learn. That's how I get content on a daily...I'm explaining what I learnt

That's what I used to do! It's a great way of going about it! I too started (back on steemit) by writing about things I already knew, then it got boring doing that, so I started learning and writing at the same time, and that made it way more interesting.
