Hello everyone, how are we all doing today ?
For me, i think I'm doing pretty great. Even though i'm not certain of the future, i'm positive that this year would turn out to be a great one, not just for me but for everyone who are prepared and hoping for it. Welcome to another week of our science and technology reports, it seems like there's been quite a lot of interesting stuffs going on in these fields recently and the only way to know is to keep reading.

Not Science Fiction: A New Method To Move Objects Without Contact

Conventionally speaking, if we want to move an object we have to get in contact with it but there are ways of moving it without touching it but the common methods have setbacks. One method requires the object to be controlled (without touching) to have it's own power source and complicated structures, drones are examples. Another kind requires the object to be magnetic but not all materials can be made magnetic. The key to controlling "any object" without contact and much work (like how those with the "force" control objects in the star wars franchise) is with the help of metamaterials/metasurfaces. Such approach has previously been used on tiny objects but in this recent report, researchers have found a way to apply it on bigger objects. Do you wish to know more, especially what a metamaterial is ?
Then keep reading and "may the force be with you" - a quote from the star wars franchise. 😎

Scientists Develop a Cool New Method of Refrigeration: “Ionocaloric Cooling”

Did you know that our Fridges and refrigerators makes use of refrigerants that are not climate friendly but had it been that these refrigerants didn't undergo phase changes from liquid to gas and vice versa it would be kinda climate friendly. In terms of phases of matter, gases are a major cause of climate change and the gas phase of the refrigerant makes it climate unfriendly. In this report, researchers seem to have discovered another way of making cooling and heating systems with the use of only solid and liquid phases, and also with refrigerants that are climate friendly. It's also suggested that this cooling system can reduce greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide from our atmosphere - a double win. Do you wish to know how and more ?

The Cure for Death Means Billionaires Will Live Forever—and Be Rich Forever

In one of our previous reports, we discussed about the mystery of death and the possibility of defeating it. Well, as at this moment, there's actually heavy research going on there - defeating death, and also heavy funding. Looks like a lot of folks are looking for immortality but there's a very big problem if it eventually becomes successful and some scientists seem to be giving warning. Do you wish to know this very big problem and more ?
Ok...read more but be careful what you wish for, don't say we didn't warn you. 😎

U.S.D.A. Approves First Vaccine for Honeybees

One criteria for developing a vaccine for an organism whose existence is threatened by a disease is if that organism has an immune system, ours is characterized by the existence of antibodies. I believe most of us, including myself thinks that insects don't have an immune system but no need to feel stupid, as scientists once thought the same. Perhaps, nature works in mysterious ways, it happens that insects too have immune responses but not like ours. In this report however, this immune response has helped scientists develop a vaccine for a very beloved but endangered insect specie - honeybees. 🤔I think this should probably be the first vaccine for an insect, amazing breakthrough and i believe that the queen bee would be very proud. The scientists involved in this groundbreaking research should get ready to be knighted by the queen bee - just kidding 😁. If you wish to know more, then slide in here

Abstracts written by ChatGPT fool scientists

These days, AI's seem to be surprising us with their capabilities, just to name a few, DALL - E (converts human written languages into images), Alphacode (an AI that can code like real programmers) and the recently ChatGPT (an AI bot that can generate meaningful write ups with few words). Just the other day, I read about students using the ChatGPT to cheat in tests (essay) and some of the students involved were caught - with the help of another AI. It seems like there maybe no exception in the scientific field, especially research papers. In other words, this ChatGPT can also write abstracts for research papers and some scientists seem to be worried. Do you wish to know why they are worried and more ?

How a rotating universe makes time travel possible

Time traveling can be a very fascinating experience but it can also be problematic, especially time traveling to the past. Paradoxes such as the grandfather paradox can arise when we go back in time, I think I may have discussed about this grandfather paradox before but where ? 🤔
Ah, yes here. We also discussed about possible solutions to the paradox. In this report however, a researcher seems to be telling us another possible way and it was inspired by the work of a very close friend of Einstein, he is none other than Kurt Gödel - one of the greatest logicians of the 20th century. One fascinating aspect of Einstein's theories of relativity is that time is also a dimension like space and would imply that a rotating universe is also a rotation of space and time. This would also mean that you could place yourself in a coordinate where your past can eventually meet up with you (since space and time are both rotating), which in turn becomes your future too, hence no paradox but however....keep reading to find out more. 😉

It is here we conclude today's report, have a thoughtful day and till i come your way again next week.
