Hello guys and welcome to another exciting episode of our weekly science and technology reports. Hope we are all doing great ? - your well-being matters a lot.

Just in case some of us may not be feeling okay, try solving the riddle below. Who knows, you may feel better if you happen to get the answer right.

Ook.... Here we go

One of my next posts is supposed to come on a "very special" day of this month. "Exactly three weeks back" after this special day comes this "current post".
What is this special day ?

Hmmm.... I must be a very lucky guy or am i ? 🤔

Alright, back to business. Below are some interesting reports you may have missed from the past week

Physicists strike gold, solving 50-year lightning mystery

I believe we all should be familiar with lightning, except if you are a little baby - those little human beings aren't familiar with lightning. I don't think we have babies on this platform but if you are, you can signify, maybe i can give you special lectures on how to be familiar with lightning. 😎
Lightning despite being a well known phenomenon has mysteries attached to it, in fact, until this report a complete understanding of how lightning actually works has been quite controversial. Though we know few things about how it works, we know lightning is due to the conduction of electricity through air from charged clouds, these clouds get charged by cosmic radiations - radiations from outer space, especially the sun. But there are things we don't know about lightning, like why it always takes a zig-zag pattern and in fact, the conventional symbol for lightning is a zig-zag line. Also, why lightning is able to travel large distances, remember Air is basically an insulator. In this report, two researchers seemed to have discovered a common solution to the aforementioned puzzles and another......read more

Artemis: why it may be the last mission for NASA astronauts

The first and last time man visited the moon was in the 1960's and 1970's. These mission(s) to the moon was called the "Apollo mission" and it was a program organised by NASA. Recently, the idea of visiting the moon again by NASA, seems to have been reignited. As a matter of fact, as at last week, NASA's Orion spacecraft had successfully made it's trip to the moon and currently on it's way back to Earth. This is the first mission of a series of missions set to be undergone by NASA and it's generally called the "Artemis Mission", this first mission (Artemis 1 mission) had no real astronauts, it was intended for testing and preparations for the other forthcoming Artemis missions, which are intended to take real astronauts to the moon. This may seem interesting but some researchers like the one in this report seems to suggest that this Artemis mission(s) may not be a new space mission per se but the last space mission for "NASA astronauts". Do you wish to know why this researcher thinks so and more ? ....read more

Wolves infected with a common parasite may be much more likely to become pack leaders (Update)

In a group, having a group leader can be very advantageous, as it helps to strengthen the group, especially with the extra and needed qualities possessed by the leader, like boldness or refusing to back down from a fight. For we humans, leadership qualities could be innate or acquired through experience. But what if these qualities (leadership) comes from having a certain kind of parasite (organisms that mostly affect their host negatively) ?
Well, this appears to be the case for wolves.... Read more

New Study Finds That Vitamin D Could Help Extend Your Life

Did you know that superman isn't the only person that gets stronger when exposed to the sun, we also do. I guess that also makes us super people - just kidding here.
But are you still surprised ?
Well, you shouldn't be and it's because the sun (sunlight) is partly a source of vitamin D (the other part of the source being our skin) and vitamin D helps in the absorption of calcium, which makes our bones (and muscles) strong.
Lack of vitamin D causes what is called "rickets" which is more of a childhood disease, it's signature being having soft bones. But, what about when we are older ?
In a recent research, there seems to be a link between vitamin D deficiency and premature death in adulthood.....read more

Fighting Cancer With Magnetic Bacteria

Cells are very vital components of multicellular organisms but when they (cells) begin to develop/grow abnormally it could become detrimental, especially in mammals. This abnormal growth of cells is often associated with tumors and cancer. Though there are different ways of managing the situation, a recent research has discovered a new method that can help improve the efficacy of some treatments (anticancer drugs and immunotherapy) and yet again with the help of bacterias. This time around it's with the help of "magnetic bacterias".
Wait a minute, magnetic what ?......read more

Positively charged nanomaterials treat obesity anywhere you want

Did you know that obesity is one of the biggest contributors to cancer worldwide. There are cells in our body whose main function is to store lipid/fat but when the lipid stored in such cell is too much, the cell can become unhealthy, thus leading to obesity. Being obese can be problematic health-wise and as stated earlier can lead to cancer. There are different ways of treating obesity but current methods have their own downsides, drugs have side effects. There are those, especially women that usually want to remove fat from specific parts of their body or probably shift them to certain other parts of their body and then undergo a surgical process called liposuction. This process too has it's own downside and it's that it could damage healthy fat cells - fat cells have useful purposes in the body other than storing fat.
In a recent research however, a team of researchers have discovered a new way of treating excessive fat anywhere in the body, with almost no side effects and without damaging healthy fat cells. This new method actually makes the unhealthy cell (fat) healthy by uncoupling unhealthy fats in the storage. This is possible, thanks to a certain kind of nanomaterial - materials with dimension(s) of the order of nanometres (10^-9 metre)/wavelength of visible light.

A 'Wormhole' Built on a Quantum Computer Teleported Information as Predicted

Well, if you are very active online, especially in the physics space, you may have recently observed this kind of news making a lot of headlines, some with somewhat misleading explanations/interpretations. If you aren't familiar with the concept of wormholes, you can refer to one of my previous reports here for a short and brief explanation. However, this new report is about an experiment that was carried out on a quantum computer, you should by now be aware that such experiment is a simulated one in a virtual world. A certain theoretical model called SYK (Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev) model, which is related to some quantum gravity theories possessing the so called holographic principle or Ads/CFT correspondence was simulated on a quantum computer and some predictions of the model, specifically the equivalence of quantum entanglement and wormholes was allegedly observed. A wormhole was never created as some reports claim, this report on the other hand gives a somewhat reliable information on what really happened.....read more.

It is here we conclude today's report, have a thoughtful day and till i come your way again next week.
