RE: Medical Myths: Do We Really Use 10% of Our Brain?

Hey @mike961,

nice article, re-hive. Nevertheless, I think the myth you are talking about doesn't imply that you just use 10% of your neurons, it is more that you just use 10% of your intellectual capacity. Consciousness, memory, and intelligence is nothing you can manifest to certain brain region or neuron it is a function of connections and alterations within your brain. The "better" this plasticity is organized the more intellectual capacity can be used. This plasticity, in turn, is the result of cross-talk between the neurons. The weaker the "quality" of this crosstalk the lower your neuronal capacity, but the neurons always live and signal. Therefore, you have to distinguish between neuronal activity (which is probably always about 100%, otherwise your neurons start to die) and your neuronal capacity. I think the "myth" is about the latter one.

Cheers

Chapper

Thanks @chappertron,I'm glad you liked it!

That's an interesting point of view, memory, and what we regard as intelligence, can indeed be trained, incrementing the amount of neural networks and pathways, though it would be hard to measure the percentages. But you're right, I doubt that we are using our intellectual capacity to its fullest extent. Then again, the good thing is we are all able to train it without any requirements or previous work.
