The Senna genus has 260 species distributed in the world and 40 species are found in Venezuela. This genus is distinguished by its diversity in biotypes, where you can find from trees to herbs; its species are characterized by having extrafloral nectaries and because the flowers present androceo with straight and short stamens.
El género Senna tiene 260 especies distribuidas en el mundo y en Venezuela se encuentran 40 especies. Este género se distingue por su diversidad en los biotipos, donde se pueden encontrar desde árboles hasta hierbas; sus especies se caracterizan por poseer nectarios extraflorales y porque las flores presentan androceo con estambres rectos y cortos.
The photographs of the plant I show below correspond to the species Senna pallida, popularly known as Twin-flowered cassia, although in Venezuela it is known by the name of Brusca. I found this plant on the top of a mountain during the dry season.

The inflorescence of the plant is usually in the form of axillary clusters, although it can also present itself as a cluster of clusters, that is, panicles. The inflorescence support or peduncle can be up to 3.6 centimeters long and have between 1 and 4 flowers. The flower support on the inflorescence or pedicel (or peduncle) can be 0.8 to 3.2 centimeters long.
La inflorescencia de la planta por lo general se presenta en forma de racimos axilares, aunque también puede presentarse como un racimo de racimos, es decir, panículas. In the calyx of the flowers the sepals are unequal, the inner ones are about twice as long as the outer ones, broadly obovate to orbicular and rounded at the apex.

In regions with a dry season, as is the case here, it blooms mainly at this time. The flower has 7 fertile stamens (male part) with oblong and more or less noticeably arched anthers, those of the 3 abaxial stamens (in the lower part) are 3.0 to 9.0 millimeters long and abruptly contracted at the apex to form a beak 1.0 to 3, 8 millimeters long that opens through a single pore, the anthers of the 4 central stamens are 2.5 to 6.0 millimeters long and end abruptly in a horizontal edge (truncate) at the apex, or are provided with a thin, hardened, very short prolonged tip that opens through two parallel slits.

The plant I found also contained fruit. The fruit is a legume that develops in a pod that opens at maturity, is linear, compressed and can measure from 5 to 26 centimeters long and 2.5 to 10 millimeters wide. Depending on its length it can contain 8 seeds but more commonly between 28 and 50, obovate or rhomboid, 0.4 to 3.5 millimeters long. The fruit support or stipe is 3 to 9 millimeters long.

The plant had very few leaves. The leaf is characterized by having a petiole that can measure between 0.5 and 4.0 centimeters long which is followed by a rachis or support of the leaflets that can measure between 3.0 and 15.0 centimeters long. The leaf is pinnate because it has leaflets on both sides of the rachis or central axis, a leaf can have between 2 and 31 pairs. After photographing this plant, I walked about 30 meters and found another smaller one. These plants can reach a height of up to 5 meters and are found in secondary thickets derived from tropical deciduous forest, that is, forest with plants that lose their leaves at one time of the year. They often behave as weeds in pastures or on roadsides, slopes, savannas and beaches. It is known to grow from sea level to 2100 meters. The plant is distributed from northern Mexico and the Antilles to Brazil and Peru.
Después de fotografiar a esa planta, caminé aproximadamente unos 30 metros y encontré otra de menor tamaño. Estas plantas pueden alcanzar una altura de hasta 5 metros y encontrarse en matorrales secundarios derivados del bosque tropical caducifolio, es decir, bosque con plantas que pierden sus hojas en una época del año. Con frecuencia se comportan como maleza en potreros o en orillas de caminos, en laderas, sábanas y playas. Se conoce que crecen desde el nivel del mar hasta los 2100 metros. La planta se distribuye desde el norte de México y las Antillas hasta Brasil y Perú.
