Yesterday I posted on Hive about the "Bone structure of a tortoise shell". That post has 4 references which are the ones I will use to explain.

Ayer publiqué en Hive sobre la "Estructura ósea del caparazón de un morrocoy". Esa publicación tiene 4 referencias que son las que utilizaré para explicar.

First reference:

Primera referencia:

The link I provided leads to the following web page which is that of the publisher (in this case it is not an article but a chapter of a book). There I copied the web address of the digital object identifier or DOI; highlighted in yellow ellipse.

El enlace que le coloqué lleva a la siguiente página web que es la de la editorial (en este caso no es un artículo sino un capítulo de un libro). Allí copié la dirección web del identificador de objeto digital o DOI; resaltado en elipse amarilla.

I then went to one of the Sci-Hub websites, pasted the copied link and clicked open.

Seguidamente fui a uno de los sitios webs de Sci-Hub, pegué el enlace copiado y le di clic en abrir (open).

After a few seconds, the full chapter of the book appeared; it is downloadable.

Luego de transcurridos unos pocos segundos, apareció el capítulo completo del libro; que se puede descargar.

If I had wanted to get the chapter using the publisher's web page, the costs would be as follows.

Si hubiese querido conseguir el capítulo utilizando la página web de la editorial, los costos serían los siguientes.

The link I provided to the reference leads to the following web page of the publisher. In this case it is not an article or a chapter of a book, it is a complete book. This book, although it has chapters, the publisher does not allow the possibility of downloading by chapters but the complete book, and you can clearly see the options and their costs.

El enlace que le coloqué a la referencia lleva a la siguiente página web de la editorial. En este caso no es un artículo ni un capítulo de un libro, es un libro completo. Este libro, aunque tiene capítulos, la editorial no permite la posibilidad de descarga por capítulos sino el libro completo, y claramente se ven las opciones y sus costos.

In general, Sci-Hub gives access to scientific articles and book chapters, but not to complete books. In this case what I did was to go to one of the LibGen websites. There I typed the title of the book and clicked on search.

Por lo general, Sci-Hub da acceso a artículos científicos y capítulos de libros, pero no a libros completos. En este caso lo que hice fue ir a uno de los sitios webs de LibGen. Allí escribí el título del libro y le di clic en buscar (search).

Among the various options that appeared I chose and clicked on the one that best matched the publisher's information; highlighted in red ellipse.

Entre las diversas opciones que aparecen escogí y le di clic a la que se ajustaba más a la información de la editorial; resaltada en elipse roja.

Next, among the various options of mirror sites for downloading the book I chose and clicked on the one of the same website; highlighted in red ellipse.

Seguidamente, entre las diversas opciones de sitios espejo para descarga del libro escogí y le di clic a la del mismo sitio web; resaltado en elipse roja.

On the next page that appeared I clicked on the word GET at the top.

En la siguiente página que apareció le di clic a la palabra GET en la parte de arriba.

In my case, I use the "Internet Download Manager" program to download files, that's why it appears in the following images, but if I didn't use it the book would also be downloaded.

En mi caso, utilizó el programa "Internet Download Manager" para descargar archivos, por eso aparece en las siguientes imágenes, pero si no lo utilizara también se descargaría el libro.

I show images of the downloaded book, I used information from chapter 1, I was inclined to use chapter 3, but finally I chose not to use it.

Muestro imágenes del libro descargado, utilicé información del capítulo 1, me incliné a usar el capítulo 3, pero finalmente opté por no usarlo.

Fourth reference:

Cuarta referencia:

For this reference, also a book chapter, I did the same as with the first reference. Copy the web address of the DOI, paste it into Sci-Hub and wait until the chapter appeared. In this case the costs were the same as for the first reference.

Para esta referencia, también un capítulo de un libro, hice lo mismo que con la primera referencia. Copiar la dirección web del DOI, pegarla en Sci-Hub y esperar hasta que apareciera el capítulo. En este caso los costos eran los mismos que los de la primera referencia.

Very few publishers provide Open Access to their publications to the general public, and most of them do so because the authors of the publications have paid for it through their institutions.

Son muy pocas las editoriales que brindan al público general un Acceso Abierto a sus publicaciones, y en la mayoría es porque los autores de la publicaciones han pagado para que así sea, a través de sus instituciones.
