Post-COVID conditions / In process of investigation

Definitely something that happened that radically changed the world was the recent Covid 19 pandemic, and even though we no longer have our social networks and media talking 24 hours a day about it, the reality is that the pandemic continues, controlled of course, but it is still there, new cases of the disease continue to appear, although to a lesser degree, of course, but not only that, but what has been called Post-Covid Persistent Conditions (PCS) are on the rise.

It can be called in different ways, and it is normal, with everything being so new and being in the process of research and discovery, it will be a few more years before we have defined and standardized names, protocols for care of both the disease and the sequelae.

Regardless of what progress has been made in this aspect, it is still a subject of constant evolution and there is still a long way to go to have absolute conclusions on this disease, and above all on the Persistent Post-Covid Affections. .

Talking about Covid today can be something very complex, because it is known that there were families in which a large number of people died, a few others ran with the grace of not having any deaths nearby, but we all know the levels that were reached.

For example, there was a well-known family in Colombia that had the unfortunate consequence that 10 of its members died of Covid. Something very unfortunate.

But even though many people have already come out of the disease a long time ago and have even complied with their vaccine, they are presenting consequences that in some cases are greatly limiting them in their daily lives, and these are the Post-Covid Persistent Conditions .

As a result of the studies, it is known that the virus has a particular affinity with nerve cells, which is why people sometimes lose their sense of smell (anosmia), because the cells that perceive odors are specialized nerve cells. The function of the olfactory system is explained in the following post: Our sense of smell, a primitive sense

Patients who suffered from Covid, and overcame it, usually present later, even weeks or months later, some of the following symptoms:

  • Fatigue and fever, as general symptoms, which are not always related to a consequence of Covid, as they are very non-specific.

  • Difficulty breathing and coughing, these respiratory symptoms are the ones that most often occur and usually require more attention because they are very limiting for people.

  • Chest pain and palpitations, these cardiac symptoms, as well as respiratory symptoms, are frequent reasons for consultation, because people are scared by what it could imply.

I could in this particular say that it is not always usual to relate these symptoms as a sequel to Covid, in case of chest pain the first thing to rule out is a heart attack or angina pectoris, for example.

  • Also at the neurological level there may be symptoms such as difficulty thinking and concentrating, sleep problems and headaches. Something that negatively affects the proper functioning and development of the person in their social and work life.

  • We can also find that patients report some digestive symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, but it is not the most common.

Based on what I have mentioned, they are all symptoms that have existed since man is a man and relating it in the first instance as being produced as a consequence of having suffered from Covid a couple of years ago is not the first option that one thinks of, but now it is within the possibilities.

By this I mean that new diseases represent a great challenge for medical, pharmacological and technological science, and more, since we have to mesh all those tools that we have so that we can respond to the realities that are being presented in the world, and not just answers but solutions.

It is here where Technology is put at the service of Science, just as pharmacology makes use of technology and science to give "quick" answers to fulfill among all the mission that is supposed to be the reason for the existence of these areas of human knowledge, which is (in my opinion) to be able to help humanity maintain its state of health, at least as far as this particular case is concerned.

The current world is 100% changing, in the same way the diseases that are presented to us are changing, they arise as great challenges that must be overcome, but it is not always as fast as we hope. Medical science has a lot to do, to discover, not only of the diseases that already exist but of those that are to come.

I do not want to be pessimistic with this, but the reality is that with the current globalization the possibilities of pandemics or the emergence of new diseases is increasing, and it does not seem to stop, since the global expansion and the desire to make this a world without borders is increasingly evident, and not only because of the digitization of our world but also because of the considerable improvements in the means of transport.

Much remains to be done, logically, the race to find solutions has not stopped, therefore, it is necessary for the general population to know that every new disease requires decades of continuous studies, in order to know exactly what they are the consequences presented by people and their offspring, if any, is a slow race, and therefore requires a lot of patience.

Thank you in advance for reading this publication. I hope you have left with relevant knowledge for you.

Good conclusion! People need to be patient for some good solutions

Yes, that's right, the problem is that because of the same current culture of wanting everything fast, it happens with this, and it's not possible.

This is not far from the truth. Covid really dealt us a strong blow but we can't give up as we keep researching ways to completely eradicate it.

It has been controlled little by little, vaccines have helped, even though there is opposition to them on the part of some. But there is still a long way to go.

I can really related what you wrote to what happened to me last Spring/Summer. It took me months to recover from COVID (despite being fully vaccinated), and even in September I was still feeling weak-ish. There are still so many things to learn from this disease, and we probably need more than a couple of years... Patience, as @gwajnberg wrote...

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but everything is so uncertain even at this point. I have been fortunate in that respect, I only lost my sense of smell, and that was it, a general discomfort that passed in a few days, no sequelae, but there are those who don't do so well in that respect. Have a good weekend.

Indeed. I know several people with permanent (at least apparently, relative to what we know now) damage... :/

Till now, I guess the cure for COVID-19 has not yet been discovered by the researchers or probably the scientists or what do you think?

I don't even know what to believe. There are many theories, the conspiracy theorists say that everything was provoked, that the cure is already there, but that they prefer to sell us the drugs. Anyway, there is a lot to know about this.
For my part I must say that the symptoms are treated based on what is presented and what has been learned.
