Agroecology as a smart soil practice to resist climate change

In food production, soil is a key element for our survival, but we do not pay enough importance or attention to it because we believe that, like air or water, it is something that will always be there and that can be renewed without problems, but this is not the case. these resources are depleted and their quality decreases over time.

▶ Soil is the edaphic resource where living organisms live, however, the increasing pressure on natural resources to feed humanity represents a growing threat to it, as soil is exploited in an irrational and polluting way.

This irrational and polluting way forces us to change or adapt food systems to implement policies that translate into investments that make change possible, such as funding for research to develop natural and organic agriculture that makes careful and sustainable use of the soil.

Agroecology as an intelligent soil practice, a new agriculture, which technicians call climate-smart agriculture, will also be a more resilient agriculture to economic and social turbulence. It would also be less dependent on synthetic fertilizers made from nitrogen and phosphorus.

But for these scientific innovations to become concrete, practical and applicable projects, and to transcend from the laboratory to the farm, it is crucial to create solid chains of scientific knowledge transmission with no missing links.

This means that the work of scientific institutions must be connected with producer organizations, the private sector, academia and, above all, governments, which can ensure that a good agricultural practice or an improved seed is within the reach of any farmer thanks to public policy programs.
